I couldn't help making a note of the link to

Just in case I might want to see it again. You never know.
It's very squeeful.
I suppose it answers my question as to whether Ianto is going to forgive Jack for running out on him to be with the Doctor. The answer is 'yes'. And quite right, too.
I wonder if this scene will happen in the first episode, or later in the season. Or in every episode.
Bring it on, guys. Bring it on.

Date: 2008-01-04 09:10 am (UTC)Yes, and done so smoothly, in my opinion. I love the way it's not 'gay characters in this category over here, straight characters in the middle'.
I've heard people say that it's unrealistic to have an organization in which everyone is bi, but I've worked in a situation where, with seven employees, four were bi, one was gay, and two were straight (but not narrow). The odds look about right to me.
I suspect that Jack and Vimes make pretty good AUs for each other.
I like that idea!

Re: Vimes and Captain Jack.
Not that I know Jack very well, but they seem to both be the kind of person who cares deeply, is very cynical, wants to fix things, and is a bit broken. At the beginning Vimes was more broken than Jack is at the beginning of Torchwood. And both of them, I think, have deep wells of anger, which they keep in check. And their starting situations are not dissimilar; I wouldn't mind seeing Jack at the head of a much larger organization which not only functions as Earth's first defense, but is also responsible for alien technology and alien individuals on earth, or something ...

Date: 2008-01-21 09:18 pm (UTC)I haven't read Vimes yet, so I can't comment on him. But I love Jack.
- the kind of person who cares deeply
Definitely.
- is very cynical
Hmm. I think not, though a case could be made. I think he is a total romantic who has to remind himself not to let his guard down. Not a cynic by nature, but sometimes a cynic by conscious policy.
- wants to fix things
Yes. That's one place the Doctor is his role model.
> and is a bit broken
In some ways; it's hard to judge now how broken he actually is. He has been broken, a number of times, and he's rebuilding himself again. (I could make a Lymond parallel again.) Seeing the Doctor again helped him a lot, and learning why he is immortal. He's still working a lot of things out.

Date: 2008-01-22 12:23 pm (UTC)Which is why they often need to pretend to be cynical. It's a veneer.
I love reading Terry Pratchett and I'm sure (from all I've heard) that I will like Vimes. Thanks for the book list - so i should be starting with Guards! Guads! I can do that.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:05 pm (UTC)When we saw the advance photos of Jack kissing Ianto in "End of Days", it looked very warm and sexy, but when we saw it on air, it was - well, it was nice enough, but not long enough to be what it should be, and in my opinion, was sort of outclassed by Jack's forgiveness hug for Owen. But I don't care so much about Owen! So I hope this upcoming Jack/Ianto kiss is a little more satisfying.
Nice icon you have there.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:12 pm (UTC)Yeah, I like it when Jack kisses anybody. But I wonder if we'll ever see him kiss the Doctor again. I live in hope.
