On the Titanic

Listening to Mr Copper's mangled Christmas stories, the Doctor watched Earth spinning below. Jack's home now, and Sarah Jane's.

He knew many Christmas traditions. Candy canes, stockings, holly and mistletoe. Songs about stars. Christmas crackers - he'd received a tiny striped top in his. It twirled like the planet, like the galaxy, like the universe. But you had to set it in motion with your thumb.

Somewhere, maybe, Sarah Jane was spinning a top with her new son Luke. Elsewhere - in Cardiff - Jack might be hanging mistletoe with his new lover Ianto.

Everything changes, but the traditions carry on.

Many thanks. I love the idea - you may have noticed - of the Doctor thinking of his former Companions after they're gone, even if he won't admit it out loud - except for Rose.
