The purpose of setting goals is to inspire action not predict it.- John H. Clark

I think that distinction is forgotten by a lot of people ... including most contemporary scientists. The common vision of a "goal" nowadays sounds like something you would score in sports, rather than a simple motivator.

I will admit that part of the difficulty is that I tend to think in puns, rather than linearly or logically. Much though I may admire Spock, I rather doubt that I could ever live up to that ideal.

I'm not sure whether I admire Spock. I like him. Love him, even, in a good episode. But admire? There's a lot of screwed-up-ness here, in my opinion. As far as I can see, Vulcans embrace logic by repressing emotions. If they're anything like humans (and they are), that can't be good.

That does not apply to government grant requests, or software schedules. Or anything that starts involving GANT charts. I only wish...

LOL - good point. (Shudder.) That is why these things tend to be painful, albeit (sometimes) productive.

Cat said you'd really like this. (http://ang.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C4%93afods%C4%ABde) God knows we're sitting around here saying "cool" repeatedly for a while now.
