fajrdrako: ([Doctor Who] - Nine)

A cold, cold day. The snow squeaked underfoot. The air was crisp and clear. It really was a beautiful day - but cold. (I looked it up: it is 6F or -16C right now.)

Morning: I woke up to a tap on my door. I could tell it was [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi's tap, wondered where my dressing gown was, decided to hell with it, and opened my door in my nightwear. She was confused. "I thought we arranged to meet here for breakfast at nine," she said.

"Is it morning yet?" I mumbled blearily.

She went away to leave me time to get dressed and make the breakfast for her and [livejournal.com profile] maaseru that I had so rashly promised yesterday. Oatmeal. We all like oatmeal. I even went to buy cream for it at the corner store: the air was cold enough to really wake me up. Brrr.

After breakfast, housework. My carpet was littered with seeds and feathers. I'm not naming any names or casting blame or anything, but I keep hoping that budgies will be neat and tidy birds. (Hasn't happened yet.)

At noon: lunch with the Vicky and Marion at Sushi Kan. I love that place. Sadly, though, they don't have my favourite of their dishes, salmon sashimi, at lunchtime. Had I but known! I consoled myself with fried calimari, salmon sushi, eels on rice, and various kinds of tempura. Along with some incredibly delicious cooked vegetables.

We browsed in The Papery, and I got a 2008 agenda, the choice aided by recommendations from Marion and Vicky. They use Lett's. I found one that had a lovely font. Perfect for fitting in my purse. I love agendas: one can really only use one at a time, and I have a wonderful time picking out which one each year. Or sometimes I go without. But I'd rather have one. Does it make me more organized? Not at all. But it makes me feel more organized, which is satisfying.

Then we watched some of the Donald Strachey movie, Shock to the System.

Then Beulah came over and we watched The Sarah Jane Adventures, "Revenge of the Slitheen", and The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries, "Laurels are Poison". In between: supper at the Green Door. It was a delightful double bill - two British stories of quite different styles, but both with characters we love.

Then, the Apaplexy collation. I wantonly ate potato chips, and enjoyed chatting with everyone.

I wish we'd have snow, too. Sounds like you had a lovely day, though. And mornings are evil.

Some mornings are more evil that others. And come sooner.

I could do without the intense cold, but it does make it much easier to walk in snow than otherwise.

Here's another way you can tell it's December -- the advent(ure) calendar on the official DW site:

I'd forgotten all about this - thanks so much for the link! It cheered me up, just when I was feeling sorry for myself because I have to work on a Sunday evening. The advent goodies on this site are great!

*jealous*

What we have here (Manchester area) is driving rain. Toby (Jack Russell) insisted on going for a walk, came back so wet and muddy he had to be wrapped up in a towel and cuddled dry. Nobody to do the same for me.

Seems to me there is something vaguely perverse about anyone wishing they had it this cold - I wouldn't mind the rain, myself! As long as it wasn't freezing rain.

As for Toby - aww, I love Jack Russells!

I wondered if they would do something like this:

Interesting! Seems a rather odd marketing decision, but... why not?

It makes sense to me. Jack has so many young fans who are missing out, because of language and sex. This way, everyone gets what they want without permanently altering the show's tone.

Yes, and it seems a fairly simple way to do it.
