Torchwood series 2...
Nov. 20th, 2007 08:20 pmSo Torchwood is returning to American TV in January, with series 2 beginning on Jan. 26.
But as far as I know, BBC hasn't actually said when they'll be starting it.
And CBC.. eee! I wait breathlessly to find out.

Date: 2007-11-21 04:30 pm (UTC)CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-17 09:52 am (UTC)As long as I don't have to wait for the CBC to see them and to get the boxset, I'll survive.
I'm going to be really, really pissed if the boxset for S1 is moved back because CBC hasn't finished airing them, like they did with DW S2 (not that I have S2 on DVD, but I remember reading that it was being released in Canada in February 2007 because CBC hadn't finished running them, and it was released in January, 2007 in the States).
Amazon.ca has JB's autobiography available for pre-order, if you're interested, January 26th I think is the date it's released. $22 and change for the paperback. $20 and change for the hardcover, in April. %) No, I don't know why the pb is more expensive and released earlier. Apparently he's also reading the audio version, but I don't know if it's abridged or unabridged.
Re: CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-17 01:53 pm (UTC)Well, I saw we didn't have them yet. It didn't seem likely, anyway.
(see DW S2 in Canada, 2006, same damn thing)
I can't think why they'd do it that way. You'd think, if anything, they'd lose viewers who either lose interest, or forget to watch entirely.

Oh no - I'd hate to see that happen. I am eager for that boxset. I want it now!
I don't really care whether my copy of the JB autobiography is hardcover or paperback. And though I'd rather have the unabridged audio version, I'll probably buy whatever they put out. Where JB is concerned, I'm easy.
Re: CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-17 07:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, as soon as I saw October 5th, I thought the same thing. I just wondered if RS or OoT would be the last one we got. We'll have to see if it's mid-January (I think it was between the 15th and 22nd by the time DW came back, with Part 2 of a 2-part story) or what. Figures as it's getting really good, they yank it for Christmas stuff.

Yeah, you'd think they could at least promote, try to show some interest. If you go to the CBC page, you'll notice the last episode mentioned is... "Countrycide". I suspect we'll be waiting a while for S2 and if the boxset comes out during or before CBC airs it, I'll be grabbing the boxset and to hell with the CBC. The only time I saw something about ratings, they got around 351,000. Intelligence had around 250,000 (which the article called either low or really low ratings), and The Tudors had around 800,000, 900,000 against House.
If they'd put TW online like they did with DW, I'd've watched it on the CBC site.
If you want to bang your head against the wall, comparing American and Canadian treatment of it, go to the BBC America site, it's much, much, much better and cooler than the one page CBC TW site.
Re: CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-18 03:20 am (UTC)That's like ancient history!
I am also annoyed with the way CBC has cut the show, and put its red banner-header over the screen. I thought it was intrusive the way BBC put its logo in the upper corner, sometimes over Jack's face, but the CBC is far worse.
They don't seem to care.

I don't care either, but my point was, it's usually hardcover, more expensive, wait a year or so for the paperback, which is less expensive. On amazon.ca, it's paperback, more expensive, January, and hardcover, less expensive, April, just four months later.
Audio CD, I'll see if it hits the bookstores here or see if it's available on amazon.ca, try to find out if it's unedited or abridged. I'd much rather have it unabridged, if it's read out loud by JB.
Re: CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-18 01:15 am (UTC)It doesn't make much sense, does it? I will probably get the paperback because I'm so impatient I can't wait. But we shall see.
I love listening to John Barrowman's voice.

Yep, it doesn't. Heh, mine's been pre-ordered since last week, I think (the paperback). I didn't put it with the boxset, because I want that a.s.a.p. Hmmmm, impatient, moi?
I hope we'll get the audiobook version! Okay, just looked, here it is:
http://www.amazon.ca/Anything-Goes-CD-John-Barrowman/dp/1405688092/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197938875&sr=8-13
February 4th (not that amazon.ca actually says that, scroll down and it says publishers date) 2008. So, you can read the paperback, then listen to the audio CD. I got this from amazon.co.uk:
Reviews
Synopsis
This is an abridged reading of the autobiography of John Barrowman, star of "Doctor Who" and its spin-off series "Torchwood", judge on BBC1's top-rating talent shows - "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?" and "Any Dream Will Do", and all-round star of stage and screen. It is the life story of one of show business' best-loved figures. Tracing John's life from his Glaswegian childhood and American adolescence, this no-holds-barred insight into the career of a multi-talented star includes his first big break (when he triumphed in an "Anything Goes" open casting to star opposite theatre legend Elaine Paige), his unmatched West End achievement, his move into American prime time television, his success in films such as "De-Lovely and The Producer"; and his current mainstream appeal as the hottest talent on the BBC.
So you can read the paperback, and if you're really curious, have it open and see what's edited out of the CD version.
Re: CBC and TW... argh!
Date: 2007-12-18 03:09 am (UTC)Well, I certainly am!
Too bad the audiobook is abridged. I have the abridged reading of Another Life and I like the full version of the book better. On the other hand, that beautiful Barrowman voice compensates for a lot.
