Heroes: Cautionary Tales...
Nov. 19th, 2007 10:48 pmInteresting episode, with a few surprises. It was good to see so much of Bennet, though I still dislike it when Claire fights with him. I was furious with Claire for forgetting what she owes her father so easily, for a boy she hardly knows. But it was all a wonderful set-up to a good climax - in fact, I thought the surprises were coming quick and fast in the last fifteen minutes. Loved the whole ending sequence. Looking forward to next week.
Favourite scene: Noah Bennet's conversation with Elle. "I kept Claire safe so they wouldn't do to her what they did to you." Scary.
Second favourite scene: Matt with Angela. Forcing her.
Third favourite scene: Hiro freezing his father as he was going over the roof, to see who his killer was. I love it when Hiro uses his powers. And Hiro's conversation with his young self at his mother's funeral was irresistible.
What didn't I miss? Alejandro and Maya. All that running/crying/crying/running we didn't get. And Monica. And Niki-Gina-Jessica.
What did I miss? Peter shirtless. Peter getting sex and/or cuddles/and/or kisses. Peter wet. Peter with Nathan. Peter any way at all. Getting his mother is some compensation.
Elle: Some very good acting from Kristen Bell, I thought. The shift in her eyes when she started listening to Bennet. The changes in her expression when she dropped the 'tough bad girl' defences and started to think.
West: I still don't trust him or like him. If he's okay, then he's boring.
Mohinder: I think I've lost my last shred of respect for him. A beautiful voice and a beautiful face don't compensate for the betrayal and killing of a friend and ally. I hope he redeems himself soon.
Adam/Kensei: Not scary enough.
Matt: Becoming very scary.

I did miss Peter but I know he;ll be back next week!
I can hardly wait for next week! really. I love it that I don't know and can't guess how this is all going to turn out.

*HRG rules! "Did you already pack Mr. Muggles' doggy bath?" Love it!
*I totally agree with you about Claire. That's why I was waiting for this ep. They really needed to turn the corner with her.
*I didn't miss Niki, but I have two points: Why would Bob allow an infected woman back into the general population like that? Also, while I wouldn't trade Bennet's life for Niki's, I wonder if there's enough of Claire's blood left to cure her. If not, Mohinder negated the entire point of going after Claire. I think Mohinder gave Bennet Claire's blood. Mo will get further karma to deal with when he finds out the Company is at the center of the Shanti virus (as per Bob's conversation with Peter in FMA).

Date: 2007-11-20 01:41 pm (UTC)For sure. One problem they have is in telling the story too slowly. Another is underplaying the characters as stupid, cowardly, or incompetent - if Alejandro and Maya were more interesting, we'd like them, but they seem to have very little personality.
The thing is, the writing mistakes they made were fairly elementary. You'd think they'd do better, when they've already proved what they can do.
West lacks something. Charisma? Range?
Mr. Muggles' doggy bath
I loved that.
We know what Claire can be. I'm not even asking her to be wise beyond her years. Just not a self-involved brat.
Why would Bob allow an infected woman back into the general population like that?
Maybe he wants the plague for some reason? If he raised his daughter to be a psychopath, he may not be too sane himself. Maybe he's like the Master, only with more outward control.
Why would Bob allow an infected woman back into the general population like that?
Mohinder really doesn't think through the consequences of his actions or choices. I am, of course, delighted that we haven't lost Mr. Bennet. But you can't help thinking it'll all start over again since Mohinder will need Claire to cure Niki, and then - and then the whole human population. Claire doesn't have that much blood!

Claire was an idiot, but I have been stupider for good sex at an older age. It was Mo who OD'd on the dumbass pills this week, sigh.

At least next week we have Sylar back.
I have mixed feelings about that. I'm not the Sylar fan most people are. But he does tend to liven things up.

He just gets dumber all the time. How does he do that?

Hiro... beautiful. The whole thing. Almost made me cry. Greatness.
Thank god Bennet's okay. Almost lost faith in the show as a whole there for a second.

Date: 2007-11-21 01:56 pm (UTC)So very true!
Maybe he'll beat the living crap out of Mohinder. Someone should.
I was watching the last episode again last night, with a friend who hadn't seen it before. Every time we saw Mohinder I screamed, "You scum! You're pretty but you're scum!" Until I stopped myself.
The Hiro bits, especiallly when he was talking to himself, were even better the second time round. (Sniff.)
I didn't think they could or would kill Bennett and I'd've been furious if theu did; I also know from a lifetime reading comics that in the world of superheroes no one is ever really permanently dead. Even so - I had my horrified doubts for a moment or two. That was brilliantly done.

Date: 2007-11-21 04:43 pm (UTC)Agreed. They scared the hell out of me. When it happened, I turned to my boyfriend and told him that if they didn't take damn good care of Hiro, they were gonna lose me. Pretty as Peter is, he whines too much sometimes and just isn't strong enough as a person yet for him to compell me the way that Hiro and Bennet do.

Date: 2007-11-21 09:27 pm (UTC)I love Bennet and Hiro, though I thought Hiro's adventures in the 17th century were rather pointless - I didn't like his story for a while there. That really changed this week.

Primatech Paper Company has recently acquired Dr. Suresh's research, and this website. We will be looking forward to your input as we push forward in the field of genetics.

I get what they're trying to say, but the writing wasn't strong enough to back up their perceptions of Mohinder, imo.
