From [livejournal.com profile] fannish5: What are your five favorite costumes/outfits worn by fictional characters?
  1. No surprise here: Captain Jack Harkness of Torchwood. The greatcoat, army shoes, solid shirts and braces worn by Jack Harkness, with or without the Bluetooth and the Wembley. Either this or this.

  2. Nightwing. Smart, sexy, acrobatic, and a perfect costume for a night-working hero. It doesn't get better.

  3. Just about anything worn by Inara Serra on Firefly. Her clothes were lovely, flowing, feminine, and often had a flavour of eastern exoticism. Always worn with grace.

  4. Any of the late 18th century sailor's uniforms worn by the characters in Horatio Hornblower, especially Horatio, Pellew, Bush and Kennedy.

  5. Lara Croft. I've never played the video-game and I wasn't a big fan of the movies - or, for that matter, of Aneglina Jolie - but I always get a kick out of the way Lara Croft dresses. Neither Batman nor Barbarella or Indiana Jones, but with a little of the flavour of all of them.

Yes for Jack, River's clothes over Inara's any day - Morena Baccarin wore them with grace, but Inara's stuff always looked like costumes, not clothing.

I almost cited Zoe's clothes. Not that she changed her style much - it was classic cowboy-warrior-girl stuff, but it was so beautifully her, which I suppose is what I was trying to say about Inara, too. Inara's stuff did look like costumes, which was sort of why I called it 'exotic' - it looked as if she was wearing it for effect, because image was so important to her identity. So that was all a plus. Those clothes would look like costumes on me, too, but I love costuming.

2. What comic is that from, and is the writing as good as the art?

4.WORD. But then I quite seriously have a uniform fetish, so yeah.

2. What comic is that from,

Nightwing (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=8691). Nightwing in his other identity is Dick Grayson, formerly Robin of the "Batman and Robin" team. I have often called him the sexiest character in comics - in DC comics, anyway. (Though Bruce Wayne comes a close second.)

and is the writing as good as the art?

As with all comics, the honest answer is 'sometimes', but I haven't followed the series very much so far, despite my ongoing love of Dick Grayson - one can only spend so much on comics every week.

I'm just starting to buy it again, actually. I got totally hooked on it when Devin Grayson was writing it - discovered how good the series was just before she left the title. Beautifully written. But then there was a story in which I didn't like the art or the story, and I dropped it. I've just started picking it up again, mostly because Fabian Nicieza is writing the current story, and I love his writing. I don't know anything about the writer for the next story coming up, Peter Tomasi.

I see Nightwing has had other consistently good writers (Marv Wolfman, Fabian Nicieza, Bruce Jones). I don't vouch for Chuck Dixon - his work hasn't excited me on other comics (though it isn't bad). I haven't read his Nightwing stories. I think I may use some of my birthday-present money on a Nightwing graphic novel.

I quite seriously have a uniform fetish, so yeah.

Me too. I almost cited another Jamie Bamber incarnation, that of Apollo on Battlestar Galactica, because I seriously love his uniforms there, and Bill Adama's Admiral uniform too. (Not to mention the similar Admiral's uniform as worn by Michelle Forbes.)

And then there's the uniform worn by Sam West in Horatio Hornblower, and the one worn by Jason Isaacs in The Patriot (otherwise an awful movie, but his uniform was gorgeous).

Silly! ; ) I already know who Nightwing is, I just wanted to know which comic book in particular that pic was from, bc I like the Batfamily soap opera, but I don't like buying random comic books in the hopes that they're good. I never remember the names of writers, unless they illustrate their own work as well. If you can rec specific trades that would be awesome, since I just will not go to the trouble of getting single issues at this point.

omfg Apollo! When watching BSG, I commented on Apollo's hawtness so often that someone made a comment about how I was sounding very straight XD But hey, blue eyes, not too tall, light build overall but very sexy muscles, nice guy, good friend, loyal, would make a good subordinate or superior officer, and manohman but he looks good in a uniform.

But Archie has a gorgeous sunny smile.

Yes, well, I thought so - ! And I don't remember which issue number that was, but it was cover art. Since I am planning to read a few Nighwing trades myself, I will report on them - this will be a pleasure!

Now, I'm no one to judge about other people's viewpoints, especially if they are straight or gay, but I can't imagine being alive and breathing and being oblivious to Apollo's amazing sexy gorgeousness.

And yes, Archie's smile was lovely. I prefer Bamber as Lee Adama - but had no problem with any of the men in Horatio Hornblower, really.

Please do! Though now I'm planning to buy them myself, anyway, but not right away.

XD That's great, I love that! But srsly I've never found any actor (much less actress) so incredibly attractive. And it's not all the uniform either ... I prefer BSG as a story overall, but there's more hawtness in HH, I think.

More hawtness in Horatio Hornblower, I agree. Much as I love Battlestar Galactica, we see less of the inner personality of the characters.

Both great shows, though.
