Buon giorno! I got this quiz from kikibug13 and there are no surprises here, none at all. My favourite country! (Okay, okay, maybe a close tie with the UK, especially if you think of Orkney, and France not far behind...) But if I think of Botticelli and Tieplo and Leonardo da Vinci and real Italian gelato and opera and Don Camillo and those Venetian canals.... yeah. Italia it is.

Despite being European anyway, I had a go, too.
I came out as Italian, too.

Essentially, I've never felt much at home with mainstream British culture. I don't like the insularity, the tagging-on to the US's coat-tails, the failure of so many people to realise they are, and always have been, European.

Oh, well, yes, if we're listing our Italian heroes - ! He's a prime example of beautiful Italian manhood.

I'm never sure whether to think of Federigo Secundo as an Italian or what. I think of him as Sicilian. But that's ... not quite right.

Sicilians, especially mediæval ones, are rather different. I'd class him as Sicilian.

The bizarre thing here is that it makes no sense geographically at all. It's an obsession of the political classes, as their only way of pretending to be a 'great power' in the post-imperial age, and of the uneducated, who are peddled propaganda by the US-owned (Murdoch) right-wing tabloid press and cling to a view of mainland Europe that hasn't evolved since WW2, never mind the end of the Cold War.

Well, you're way ahead of me there! Of all European cultures, I probably know least about Spain and the Spanish language. Or maybe Spanish and Albian and Czech as sort of equal bastions of my ignorance.

It makes sense that our answers would reflect our areas of knowledge rather than the areas where we draw a blank.
