Regrets

Sitting among the old empty pizza boxes, Gwen wept. Owen was a bastard. She'd thought he cared. She wanted to throttle him. She hated him.

She didn't want to lose him.

She'd thought she was alone in Torchwood, but Jack was there. He put a comforting arm around her shoulders. She buried her face in his shoulder, and he held her. "Hey," he said. "It'll be okay."

"Owen doesn't want me. It hurts."

"He loved Diane," said Jack, gently. "Owen was exciting, but who did you love? Owen or Rhys? Which do you really want?"

"Rhys," whispered Gwen, crying harder.

I like how you wrote Jack. He would recognize Gwen's situation for what is is, no more, no less.

Thank you. Jack is - at least with those he cares about - both insightful and compassionate, but he doesn't foster illusions, or let other people do so.

Wow. I see what you mean by the 100-word limit demanding that an author use words well and sparingly. This was wonderfully done.
