Jack was... Jack had been... a con man.

He had told her so.

What to believe, when a liar says he is a liar?

Toshiko trusted Captain Jack Harkness as she had seldom trusted anyone. Lonely and isolated, she had never loved many people. Besides her family? There'd been Owen. (Right.) Mary. (Even worse.) Jack... boss, mentor, friend.

A man who lived with a stolen name and unknown past. Whose mind was unreadable.

He said it was wrong to open the Rift; could she believe him? Could she trust her own judgment, to trust him?

Could she afford that risk?

I keep going back to re-examine everyone's motivation in "End of Days", and to me, Toshiko's is inexplicable - in such a way that I go back to it and wonder. what, at this point, she is thinking. Such fun to play with.
