fajrdrako: ([Doctor Who] - Ten)

I had dinner with Beulah at the Green Door restaurant: delicious as always.

Then we came back to my place, and she did a repair job on the wooden chair at my computer desk - she says it's incomplete, but it looks great. The right arm had come off. It's on now. Hooray for Beulah and her tools!

That being done, we watched The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries: Death at the Opera, starring Diana Rigg as a 1920s British sleuth. We got a great surprise right off: one of the key roles, Max Valentine, is played by David Tennant. Which we hadn't known or expected. And that isn't the only Doctor Who connection, since Peter Davison plays Inspector Henry Christmas.

Max Valentine, needless to say, was gorgeous. Here he is with braces, like Captain Jack. And dressed up. There are more pictures on this site.

Aside from Max Valentine, my favourite role in the story was Neil Dudgeon as George Moody, Mrs. Bradley's resourceful and charming chauffeur. He wore very sexy boots.

Oooh, ooh, I think I saw one of the Mrs. Bradley mysteries on Mystery! on PBS a couple of years ago -- I found it delightful! I hope this means there will be more installments soon on PBS.

Beulah got it as a DVD set from some catalogue that sells British DVDs to Canadians. I looked up the series; apparently there were 5 episodes. Really, it was delightful, I want to watch the rest. Even if that's the only one that David Tennant is in. I'd watch it for George alone, and I've always been a Diana Rigg fan. Her clothes are terrific!

I love Diana Rigg. I'll have to look for this DVD set on Amazon.

I remember liking George very much.

George is utterly adorable. Partly it's the clothes and the manner, but there's a charm to him.... A sense that he really enjoys what he's doing and loves Mrs. Bradley's sense of humour and her brains. I also love the way he goes about his semilegal acts (pickpocketing, picking locks, etc.) with such a happy smirk. Reminds me a little of Digger in the Kate Ross novels - did you ever read them? The hero was a respectable upper class gentleman of the 1820s and his companion/sidekick/companion in sleuthing was his valet, a former pickpocket from the streets. (I always thought them rather slashworthy. I should make a list of such ideas. Hmm.)

On a similar train of thought, certainly enough random bisexuality in the Mrs. Bradley story to go around, one could easily slash Max Valentine with George Moody.... hmmmmmm.

Pretty, pretty image.

Almost That is so good! I wrestled with tempatation and decided it was neither on my diet nor within my budget. But. Next time. I owe it to myself now.

I keep want to say something more rational, but all I can come up with is "Pretty in pretty clothes!"

And that I need to find an excuse to put the Doctor in '20s period clothes. And somehow get Jack involved.

all I can come up with is "Pretty in pretty clothes!"

That sounds totally rational to me. And oh so true!

I need to find an excuse to put the Doctor in '20s period clothes.

Oooh. Swoon. Yes.

And somehow get Jack involved.

Easy. I'm taking this as a challenge. I double dare you!
