Interesting article from the Telegraph: Physicists have 'solved' mystery of levitation.

Sounds unlikely, doesn't it? But the boundaries of the possible seem to be changing every day.

I actually thought this was old news... I study in Nijmegen and this was always one of the more popular items to quote as off-the-wall physics research (I think it even got an IgNobel prize yup ). From the looks of that page, the article dates from ten years ago. Quite what Andrews has done different/better, I can't determine. Though it's entirely possible that this is a theoretical exploration of why the levitating frog actually works...

I'm delighted to have you drop by. Come by whenever you wish! I like your icon.

Didn't know the same work had been done a decade ago - though I do remember those levitating frogs. Which is a memorable image. Maybe the journalists were just feeling bored this week?

St Andrews is like that. How do you think I got this way?! ;-D

And remember, according to her official bio, the Master's wife Lucy is a fellow alumna…

And an American guy is working on a time machine (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6933059.stm).

What, people levitate as a matter of course? Maybe I went to the wrong university!

Scary.

And an American guy is working on a time machine.

Good luck to him! I'm a little more eager for the teleporation devices. (Spend an afternoon in Northern Italy and be home in time for supper...)

Let's put it this way, I think Torchwood is looking for the Rift in the wrong part of the UK… ;-D

Perhaps that Scottish Torchwood office that we haven't seen yet is actually at St Andrew's.

Nice thought. A university ought to be a nexus of realities.
