You might remember that last August I had an extended visit from Squeaker, my friend the charming guinea pig.

She's back; her family has gone on a camping trip again.

Only eight days, but it will be fun to have a furry creature in my home again, not just featured ones.

Yes. Little birds do tend to be skittish when it comes to cuddles. But their feathers are so soft. (and need to be vacuumed out of my rug right now...)

Indeed: and if they are properly finger-trained, they love being stroked gently! (It is a long time since I felt the warmth of a tiny pair of bird-feet around my finger, and just thinking about it chokes me up.)

Yes. Their feet are so soft and delicate and warm - and can do such amazing acrobatics.

It's just having the trust of someone so tiny that really gets to me: that they feel safe enough to sit on your finger, perch on your head, & c.

Not to mention complaining when breakfast is late, chewing the ceiling plaster, making holes in the curtains, dive-bombing the table - yup, plenty of trust there!

Squeaker is really fairly large. I don't know many guinea pigs personally, but I always picture them as being much, much smaller than this. She fits very nicely in a lap for serious petting. She's... I was going to say she's the size of a kitten, but of course kittens come in many sizes, including 'very small', and she isn't that. Maybe the size of a small cat? I should weigh her, just for the fun of it.

Her advantage over a cat is that I'm not allergic to her!

Aww, Honey got a clean cage today and a lot of love between a few particularly emotional chapters of HP. I think she is pleased!

Squeaker just got some fresh chard - and the budgies too - so my apartment if currently full of happy chirping and squeaking creatures. I love it.

And I just managed to borrow a copy of HP, so I can read it now!

Squeaker seems to be enjoying the company of the budgies. Or at least the noise of them. She makes a fair amount herself. I begin to think I live in a jungle.

More clippings - how wonderful! I was reading more of the articles from the last batch you sent today, and rereading others. Such good pictures, too.
