It looks like they're aiming for the gay male and slasher segments of rugby fans in particular ; )
Gah, I need to start watching Dr. Who so I can read you comments! Though just participating in the Naruto fandom is eating up enough time, I'm not getting through any BSG!

Works for me. It's all in my best interests. Go for it, boys!

If/when you do, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Any fandom can take up 100% of one's time, and though I don't know Naruto, my impression is that this is doubly true for any fandom with a Japanese source.
Why d'you think Japanese stuff can take up more of a person's time? But yeah, there's definitely some good nooks and crannies in the fandom, and some ppl worth talking to - and I'm good at avoiding badfic and wankers, thanks to the school of hard knocks which is HP fandom ; )
I've watched the miniseries and most of the first season. I've had the last disc of the first season lying around for a while now ... Great stuff. Gah.

Observation of my friends who are into it, mostly. There are so many very long series, and the hours spent at weekend cons mostly watching them, and the cosplay, and the manga, and the toys, and the endless Japanese lessons, and the search for obscure yaoi when visiting New York, and the careful comparison of translations....
Can you tell that some of my friends are hard-core addicts? (g)

HP fandom has quite a reputation for nutters, but really, there is no fandom without badfic. None that I've ever seen!
I've watched the miniseries and most of the first season. </i.
Ah - I hope I haven't inadvertently thrown spoilers your way.
Great stuff, indeed. Amazing. Wonderful characters, fantastic writing. Makes me cry. I'll swear I often watch a whole episode of BSG without even breathing.
I really doubt I'll ever be that hardcore ; ) I do the watching long series thing, and now a *ton* of LJing, and that's all. And I would really be writing fiction, seriously, but ferfucksake the LJing takes up a lot of time, and is easier.
I'm just very used to the kind of writing which one uses to blog, as well as paper-writing writing, but not creative writing. And I don't have anything pushing me to get through this rough patch where I have to work very hard to put what I want to into a story.
I find generally that stories tend to write themselves, or not get written - in other words, it's either happy compulsion to write, or nothing at all. And that's okay. It really is.
The only Japanese character I've written about is Spike, I think, in that story I posted yesterday. I've certainly thought about writing Eroica fic, but I can't recall ever actually doing so. I'd like to watch more too, but I don't find the time. And the last anime series I tried to watch (after Cowboy Bebop) bored me, so that put me off a little.
I also tend to not like the voices in anime, and that's a big problem. I have the same problem often in American cartoons.
I like the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children characters, or at least, their artistic depiction. So I sometimes read Reno/Rufus slash. And the guy whose name I forget - Rude.
And yes, LJ-writing takes time from story writing, and is deliciously seductive. I love doing both.
Some things that I want to do only get done if I sit down someplace without distractions and *do* them. I got some work done on Bells while I was on the train and had no internet connection. LJing is increasingly important to me, but I want to be working on Bells, too. Not enough hours in the day.
Do you watch anime with dubs ...? Please tell me you don't.

Hard to do, and still easier said than done.

And not enough energy through those hours. The story of my life!

Not usually. Partly because if I'm watching with maaboroshi, she wouldn't let me watch dubs. Partly becuase it depends on my sources: many don't have dubbed versions anyway. Personally I haven't found that dubs are necessarily bad - I'm not sure why anime fans view them with such horror, since some are IMHO reasonably good, though quality varies, as in all things. The original voices tend to bother me as much as the dubbed voices, so that's a toss-up as to quality, too.
The same can be said for any translations. And it's not as if the subtitled versions always have particularly good translations, either.

BSG is brilliant. How far have you watched?
