Afterelton.com comes through - finally, an account of John Barrowman's recent TCA interview that is somewhat more geared to my tastes. And illustrated with Jack/Jack pictures, too!
Is it just me, or does John B. look a little tired in that photo? (I certainly would be after dealing with TV critics and 12-hour shooting days!)
I love this quote: "I think the American public is smarter than the censors who try to cut things out for them. I think they're smarter than the politicians who put them in office."
I also enjoyed this interview: http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/tv/archives/118109.asp#extended especially the discussion of how Captain Jack is explicitly a hero.

I imagine he also has jet lag. Cross-Atlantic trips always zonk me and he was doing a quick trip - all the way to the west coast. I can't imagine why he doesn't always look exhausted: he certainly doesn't seem to schedule time for sleep. Ever!
I liked his comment about wanting boys to have a hero they could look up to who way gay - it works on several levels, raising the self-esteem of young gay males (isn't that one of the greatest areas of suicide?) and raising the acceptance-level of gay people among the young straight people of all descriptions.
"I've kind of made Jack a hero that I would like to have looked up to as a little boy," Barrowman said, "because as a little boy, I knew I was gay but I didn't know what it was. Didn't know who to talk to about it."
I could say just about exactly the same thing - "as a little girl, I knew I was bi but I didn't know what it was. Didn't know who to talk to about it." We still don't have much in the way of role models but every little bit helps immeasurably.
