The Fountain...
Jul. 16th, 2007 01:45 pmYesterday I watched The Fountain, with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. I usually am not terribly of Rachel Weisz - even though she's been in some movies I loved - and I liked her here as the Spanish queen but not so much as the suffering wife. My former fondness for Hugh Jackman seems to have evaporated with time, but his acting was good here. Right after saying I wasn't much of a fan of Ellen Burstyn, I really liked her in this. Famous last words.
It was visually one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, right up there with Hero.
Now, before I saw The Fountain I had no idea what the storyline was, other than that there was something about a Spanish conquistador. Now that I have seen the movie, I still have no clear idea what the storyline was. It was about life and the inevitability of death, and about immortality and creation...
But I'm not quite sure what it had to say about these things. Torchwood is much more direct and clear on the subject.
Pretty, pretty pictures.

Maybe I'd say it was about an organization in Cardiff that studies aliens.
I guess it really depends who asked. With most of my fannish friends, I'd say it was a story about a wonderful omnisexual intergalactic con man who ends up in Wales!
