The Predator's Mist

Jack waited, weapon in hand, in the chill morning. He'd chased a Weevil to a cul-de-sac in the warehouse district. Cornered, hiding, it would be readying itself for attack. When it moved, he would stun it.

Jack liked Weevils. He thought their predicament a poignant one. He wanted to help them, to understand them. He wanted to see the world through their predatory eyes, tapping into the psychic perceptions that linked them. They too were monsters, lost in time and space: his brothers.

Brothers who would kill him, given the chance.

They lurked within the mist, and Jack waited patiently.

A very interesting take on how Jack feels about the Weevils. There was always some sort of kindred spirit between them.

I love the way Jack treats Weevils - fairly pragmatically, but with interest and kindness as well. The way he names them, for example.

Did you read the 'conversation' between Jack and the dead Weevil in Torchwood: Another Life? It's very funny, and brings out Jack's sense of interaction with them.

Always love that icon. Even though I don't usually like puns, even from the mouth of Captain Jack Aubrey. But it cracks me up every time.

The random title generator's churning out some good ones :) I liked this a lot - you do get that sense from the way Jack watches them that he really feels something for the Weevils.

Excellent again! (BTW, my father can't get over the fact that one of them is called Janet. It's the name of one of his sisters! If Torchwood had been around when they were kids, she would never have lived it down!)

He does. Now, I'd choose the Doctor, rather than Weevils, myself, but I guess the Doctor has not allowed Jack any choice in the matter at all. Yet.
