fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - Captain Jack)
[personal profile] fajrdrako

I have been browsing the motivator postings at Television Without Pity, which I hadn't done for a long time, and I saw that some wonderful fans have got going on "Utopia" motivators and other related themes. I love it. Examples:

From Torchwood and Doctor Who:

  1. Man Sandwich by BeatrixKiddoe
  2. Hugs by BeatrixKiddoe
  3. Kissing by BeatrixKiddoe
  4. and more hugs by BeatrixKiddoe
  5. Then there's 'angst - bigger on the outside' by firefly fan
  6. Kissing Jack by belsum
  7. Captain Jack Harkness by firefly_fan
  8. She was blonde by firefly_fan
  9. 169 years by ceindreadh

    Other stuff:
  10. The Sycorax by Lantern7
  11. Genetic Transfer (from "The Evolution of the Daleks") by Nyghtblade.

    From Heroes:
  12. Scrubs (really, any excuse I can find to look at Peter Petrelli) by BeatrixKiddoe
  13. Time Travel Face by ibroketuesday

And Firefly Fan has a wonderful set of Christopher Eccleston motivator pix:
  14. Eccleston is Sexy
  15. Eccelstion is still sexy
  16. and sexier yet
  17. and just in case you didn't believe it, polyglot adds her proof and even more proof and then a bonus for more variety. So to speak.
  18. And this one from Heroes just made me laugh.
  19. Before I go off to bed, two more irresistible hugs, one from Ten and one from Nine.

Uh-oh - you're up in the morning and I still haven't made it to bed. Bad me. I was still fixing a few of the links. This has been just too much fun and I'm sure I'm missing some good ones.

*giggles* Too much fun. Sounds sooo familiar!

Sleep well, and have a fun Friday. I'll do my best to have a present for you in the morning.

I am such a hedonist. I start enjoying myself, and ... well, there you have it.

'Yay' re [livejournal.com profile] rude_not_ginger's permanent account.

And aaah, Friday is here. Not just Friday, but payday. LIfe is good. (And I'm only yawning a little.)

I'll do my best to have a present for you in the morning.

Ooh! Anticipation!

Ooh! Anticipation!

Oh but the two drabbles have been up for... hours? ;) I hope you like.

Found 'em! I loved them, and commented. That second one is going into my 'favourite stories' folder.

I'm at work, and being diligent, with lapses. Had to write my own other drabble - I assume [livejournal.com profile] sabhyl will be putting up another challenge today? I wanted to get another crossover in before the curtain falls. I find that after a drabble-challenge topic is posted, it takes a couple of days of subconscious rumination before the ideas come. Then sometimes they come thick and fast and I'm hard pressed to write them all before the next week's challenge comes along.

But it's fun that way.

Those were fun! What are motivators, though?

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
The easy explanation is that they are fannish pictures with captions. Usually but not always meant to be funny.

They're called motivators because they are based on posters you can buy in the stores that have pretty pictures (often of dolphins or sunsets) and a 'motivational' word or phrase under them, like COURAGE or STRIVE FOR SUCCESS or something like that. There's always a black frame around the picture, with the words in white.

Often the fannish version emulates the font of the commercial originals.

I'm sorry to say that the Eccleston ones reduced me to fangirl mush. Now I'm really, really eager to do our project of watching series 1 again. I adore that man with an incurable passion.

Why sorry? I'm happy to declare that I drool for Eccleston.

And in just over a week, we'll be out of new Who and will be reduced to re-watching Nine. Oh the suffering! ;)

Well... not very sorry. Quite tickled, in fact. But I like to pretend I have some dignity sometimes.

in just over a week, we'll be out of new Who and will be reduced to re-watching Nine. Oh the suffering! ;)

Put that way, I'm quite looking forward to it - much as I've been enjoying having new episodes.

#5 is my favorite DW one. #18 isn't funny to Jack Coleman (http://www.heroes-tv.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1162). Variations of the photo story have been circulating around the net for days.

#5 is great - it's the reference to the Teaboy that most cracks me up when I look at it.

As for #18: I think that what made it funny to me is the fact that in the show, the relationship between Mr. Bennet and Claire is so prefect as a father-daughter relationship, so wonderful in every way, all the more so because of Mr. Bennet's initial moral ambiguities - well, the whole point is the absurdity of the idea that there could be anything sexual there, and the Petrelli connection/relationship when fans like to play around with the idea of Petrellicest. In other words, Jack Coleman has nothing to worry about, really.

But I understand his concern.

I agree. Anyone sane, who understands the internal logic of HRG/Claire would and should laugh. The problem is that the JC/HP romance speculation made it from the rumor sites, where everyone expects that kind of thing, to the a supposedly higher end site that Coleman and others actually read. Furthermore, TWOP actually brought up the the supposed incest/pedophelia angle in a podcast interview with Coleman.
