Technological emergencies and life's little difficulties...

Last night, as my Canadian friends know, Doctor Who series 3 finally started in Canada, on the CBC. Then at midnight they showed the Doctor Who special from Christmas 2006, The Runaway Bride. Don't ask me why they decided to show an episode about Christmas at midnight in June. It's the CBC. They do things like that.

So I was all set to tape both, but I was feeling unwell last night, and couldn't even stay awake to watch "Utopia" over again, that's how bad I felt. So I set the recorder for Doctor Who and went to bed. But it didn't work. My wonderful spiffy miracle machine wouldn't turn off, and it has to turn off for the recording to work. I poked at it, and changed the batteries in the remote, and got frustrated, and went to bed.

This morning I told my friend Sandi about what happened. Wailed a little. Tonight she and Pat came over - they drove me home from a movie - and helped me sort out the problem. Not just the old batteries, but the new batteries I'd put in were defective. I found better batteries and everything works fine. Whoops of joy and sighs of relief. A day late for "Smith and Jones", though.

But there's even better news. Sandi, heroic friend that she is, had taped both shows last night herself, and made DVD copies for me, and now I have them too, despite my technological difficulties. She's a true fannish friend.

In return, I'm hoping to find a certain episode of Stargate SG-1 for her - season 10, episode 8, "Memento Mori". Let's hope I can track it down.

Thank you! I do indeed feel much better. Just one of those funny health aberrations, I guess.... Luckily timed on an evening where I had no commitments so I was able to go to bed and try to sleep till I felt okay again. I've no idea what was actually wrong with me.
