Billy Elliot: the music...

A few weeks ago on Any Dream Will Do they had as a guest one of the young men who played Billy Elliot in Billy Elliot: the Musical singing (and dancing) the song "Electricity" and I was most impressed. I'd liked the movie, but knew nothing about the stage show.
So when I saw the CD of the musical for sale at the shop down the street, I bought it.
I'm listening to it at work as I'm working on the bank statement. I have discovered it makes me cry in a way the movie never did. Especially the song about Billy's letter from his mother; and the dialogue at the beginning of "Electricity".
Really, not many things make me cry, but this musical pushes all my buttons. Les Miserables does too, but the music alone doesn't do it, I have to be actually watching the show and getting to the heroic bits. Billy Elliot is heroic in another way.

(The picture started life as the Hungarian poet/revolutionary Sandor Petofi, but I tweaked it a bit. Mischa always struck me as a bit of an 1848 person in spirit, but living in the 1870s.)

Will see what I can do…
There is some Jack-related material in the latest Radio Times: I will, of course, send it to you!
