Yesterday I posted about going to see Beowulf performed by the Ottawa Stilt Union.

My photos are blurry and sadly overexposed - it was very sunny! - but here they are:
  1. Beowulf fights Grendel

  2. Beowulf fights Grendel's mother, Mary. You'll just have to trust me that she looked like Miss havesham - all her lacy bits were too bright to show.

  3. Beowulf is triumphant

  4. Beowulf fights the dragon

  5. Beowulf and the Geats. The narrator is in front of Beowulf here.

That looks so great! and what a nice, sunny day!

I took a seminar in Beowulf (just Beowulf) in grad school. And I was just going through a box of old comics and found two issues of Beowulf: Dragon Slayer. Synchronicity?

Yes, wasn't it fun? We need more theatre like that!

I do love synchonicity like that - ! Yes, it was a very sunny, hot day, which was welcome after we'd had a few cold, rainy days last week. Yo just never know what the weather will be these days.

I thought I would be lobster-like and sore afterwards, but I seem to have got away with no more than a noticeable pinkness.

Aw, you're lucky. My entire shoulder is burning. I'm rubbing aloe into it like crazy, but it's very red.

I might go see it again this week!

How long is it running for? Is it extended? I thought tomorrow was the last performance.

Oh, crap, you're right. I'm off by a week in my head, I thought it ended next Sunday. Darn!!

I was wanting to see it again, too. It should have had a longer run!

I agree! Oh well, next summer maybe they'll put on a different show on stilts :D

Should be fun if they do. I'm hoping.

I ran across something amazing in the book store last week: a new translation of Beowulf, with side-by-side pages of the original and the translation. Thought of you instantly. Want it? ...You can have it when I'm done!

Who did the translation? Is it really a new one? How wonderful!

Howell D. Chickering. Apparently, this translator did a version in 1977 also. This one is 2006, apparently with some changes. "Dual-language" is the term, I see. Yep, it's wonderful.

I remember you talking about it. The show was magnificent - it reawakened all my dormant Anglo-Saxon love. Hwaet! I wish I could see it again.
