Any Dream Will Do: Week 9...
Jun. 2nd, 2007 12:47 pmI watched last week's Any Dream Will Do while exercising this morning. I'm only seven days behind, that isn't too bad. I enjoyed it more than ever, and not just the John Barrowman moments - though they are superb. I liked the Josh Groban moments, too!
I am most impressed by the improvement in the skills of Ben and Lewis.
Keith Jack is still my choice for Joseph, because of his fabulous voice, and his charm. His flaw, to my eyes, is in his physical skills. He's the only one who flubbed the high trapeze, and he was the one most out of shape on the Les Miserables set. Fitness can be achieved with practice, but he doesn't have the dexterity or stamina one would hope for.
He's still my pick, though, because in every other way he exceeds the requirements.
Lee Meade would be my second pick because he is just so talented, and no slouch with the charm, either. I love hearing him sing. I loved his duet with Josh Groban. I'm still replaying his Paint it Black on YouTube. I think I'm a Lee fan. I loved his singing of Daydream Believer.
Craig Chalmers is gone now, and I was rather impressed how well he coped through the last couple of weeks. Still: his songs had so little power to them. I thought - was it just my imagination? - that after he was disqualified, his regional accent suddenly because a lot stronger.
Lewis Bradley has grown on me, mostly through personality: He's had a good story arc, and has hung in there with a certain tenacity. I also see the most improvement in him.
Ben Ellis. It's only in the past through weeks that Ben has made any kind of impression at all. I still think his voice is week, and doesn't carry much expression: it's nice to listen to, but not moving. His face and manner are good, I just don't see much stage presence.

Date: 2007-06-02 05:09 pm (UTC)Lee's my bet. although he does have professional experience and is slightly advnantaged.
Don't like the others.

Way to go, Marian!

Date: 2007-06-03 12:59 am (UTC)I think Keith is plenty hot but I take your point: I think more people are likely to see Lee as Hot (which he is) than Keith.

Date: 2007-06-02 05:40 pm (UTC)I do think I'm with John and Denise about Keith losing his focus now and again though - he has moments when he has me completely drawn in, when I don't want to tear away my eyes from him; and moments when he doesn't seem special at all - on the other hand, he's 19 - he really can work it out, with the proper training. I want to see how his career progresses. And I laughed out loud and then some when Denise said Keith reminded her of a young John Barrowman. I mean... Oi!!!
Lee. Oh, Lee. I do think he's the best of the lot - advantaged, true, but still so. Joseph or not, I want to see more of him. I first heard the Lee/Josh Groban duet on MP3, and it sounded to me he stood his ground and then some!!
Lewis. He's grown on me too. In the beginning, he looked incredibly bland to me (really did!) - he impressed me about 3 weeks back, and I must say his singing The Rose (after my initial irritation for quoting it as Westlife song!) really gave me goosebumps - which is saying something...
Ben. Ben is a fighter, and I think that to me gives him a certain piquancy and sparks my interest. Can he do Joseph, the one who made it from slave to ruler? I do not know. He also grew amazingly much in the show - I didn't even notice him enough to think I disliked him, until about 3 weeks ago as well.
Ah yes. Now the contest gets ugly. I'm going to be very sorry to see any of them go away.
Oh, and I only watched it last night. So... You're not the only one who watched it somewhat late...

Date: 2007-06-03 12:57 am (UTC)Oh, yes, they were spot on with that. I don't think he ever seems less than special, but he seems to lose control of what he's doing from time to time - or maybe it's that sometimes the effort shows.
I laughed out loud and then some when Denise said Keith reminded her of a young John Barrowman. I mean... Oi!!!
Me too. And John Barrowman's reaction!
But once she said it, I could see it too. Dimples might have something to do with it. They both have stunning smiles.
I first heard the Lee/Josh Groban duet on MP3, and it sounded to me he stood his ground and then some!!
That duet was wonderful. Yes, though I'd pick Keith over Lee for Joseph - and that's only by a hair - I'm a Lee fan and would want to follow his career wherever it goes. If he puts out an album, for example. (Dare I hope?)
In the beginning, he looked incredibly bland to me (really did!)
Yes, me too. And he didn't seem very attractive. But his spirit and resilience have impressed me in the past while.

Date: 2007-06-02 06:08 pm (UTC)My 2p, if I may.
Keith grabbed me the first time I heard him, when they were selecting the final 12, and I've been gunning for him ever since.
(Have I miss calculated or is he the ONLY one to have never been in a sing-off?)
Lee, Ok maybe I'm a bit biased against him, but I'd rather not see the role go to someone with the experience he's got, There must be a reason he's been an understudy for so long. Plus he has an arogance I don't like:
"I wish they'd all go home so I can just get on with it." Not cool.
In fairness tho, he is talented and 'Paint it black' was pretty awesome.
Lewis, Man that Boy has a long neck! Not sure he has the strength to go all the way, But I would go see him if he wins.
Ben, oh what a sweetie. He has had such a long journey, and he keeps coming out fighting, Gotta love that. Keith's My number one, But I wouldn't be upset if Ben won as he has come so far.
My Gut Instincts:
It's gonna come down to Keith and Lee, and that will be one HELL of a show.
Thankyou for your time.

Keith:
(Have I miss calculated or is he the ONLY one to have never been in a sing-off?)
I-m not sure - he may be. I think Keith is gorgeous and I love the way he sings, and the way he moves. I see and agree with all the pro-Lee arguments but it's Keith who really won my heart.
I don't see Lee as particularly arrogant and his "Paint it Black" was breathtaking.
Lewis needs to hone his talents but he's developing a charm that is starting to win me over.
Ben always did have the charm; I don't think he has the power.
It's gonna come down to Keith and Lee, and that will be one HELL of a show.
It'll be amazing!

Re: Sing-offs, Graham said that Niether Keith Nor Lee have been in sing-offs, but I'm sure Lee was once, when He had that cold.
Keith Owns my heart, and It's like Denise said, no matter how good the others are, your ear goes to him, His voice is distinct. Even if he doesn't win *Emos at Thought*, I hope he gets some kind of record deal or something from this, he is too talented to not get some kind of career from this.
I agree that Lee isn't overtly arrogant, certainly to to the level that Seamus was (I still can't believe he said 'conspiracy theory' to Andrew, No Class), but he does seem to have an air of, 'This part is mine', where-as the rest are 'I want this so bad.'
Lewis really stepped it Up this week, his 'Oh what a circus' was breath taking.
Poor little Ben, there was alway an inevatability to his going, but He has grown so much, even if he only use's Half of what he has learnt on his journy, he will go far.
My saturdays, DW, ADWD, DWC, Results show (Usually from the edge of the seat.
If DW is even half as good as it promises, and hey, it's a Moffet script, Between that and the final, I'm gonna be spending this satuday alternatinfg between Behind cousins, standing up and hollering and somewhere on the floor.
I can't WAIT!!
:D

Date: 2007-06-04 01:41 am (UTC)Yes, I thought I remembered that.

Distinct, memorable, and moving. Ben sings lovely but I don't get the same sort of feeling. Keith seems to be able to just project emotion.
I hope he gets some kind of record deal or something from this, he is too talented to not get some kind of career from this.
Yes, and this means that if he does do a CD, I'll get to buy it an hear more of him.

Sounds wonderful! I am at the mercy of when I can get my hands on things. Never soon enough, of course.
it's a Moffet script
I am almost afraid to hope it'll be up to Moffat's usual standards, but he hasn't let us down yet.
I can't wait either. But I have to! Five or six days. Eee!

Date: 2007-06-04 03:06 pm (UTC)Ben does have a sweet voice, and Gareth Gates has proven that a lisp is not something to hold you back, I really hope he does well in the future.
I'd buy the CD and go to the Signing, ;)
Aww, actually, this is the first time over the three years that I've been able to see new-Who live, I love my new job.
I try to stay open minded on all stories, esp. ones we've had no spoilers for, It's an interesting teaser.
Are you american then?
How did you get into ADWD?

That it is!
Are you american then?
No, Canadian.
How did you get into ADWD?
My passion for John Barrowman - and my love of musical theatre - led me there.
