Today's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 question: Imagine a con that perfectly fits your interests and preferences and describe five panels or events at that con.

Let me do a three-part answer:

First con: A Dunnett convention. This could be any of the Dunnett gatherings I have already been to. It would be set in the Loire Valley, or Venice, or Zakynthos, or Lanarkshire. There would be historians present. Panels would include:
  • Ivan the Terrible: the historical perspective
  • The 100 best Dunnett quotes
  • The Weakest Link: Dunett Trivia
  • Dunnett filksongs
  • The newest Dunnett opera: "Macbeth Hereafter"
At some point during the con, the previously undiscovered manuscript of a final Johnson Johnson novel would be revealed, answering all our unanswered plot questions.

Second con: Torchwood and Doctor Who. Guests of Honour would include John Barrowman (who would at some point sing for us), David Tennant, Freema Agyeman and Gareth David-Lloyd; also Paul Cornell, Catherine Treganna, Stephen Moffatt and Russell T. Davies. An episode from Torchwood series 3 would be shown, with DI Swanson prominent in the plot. Panels would include:
  • From the Game Station to Roald Dahl Plass: the missing bits of the story
  • Q&A session with John Barrowman
  • Q&A session with David Tennant
  • An airing of the romantic sex scenes between John Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd that ended up knee-deep on the cutting room floor. This item would be of extended length, by special arrangement.
  • The travels and loves of Captain Jack
Pizza would be provided in plentiful supply.

Third con: LJ Slash fandoms: Which all my LJ and other slash friends could attend, with fan panels of all sorts, dealers with zines, photos and posters, costuming, video showings of the good shows, and good slashy fannish art. Panels would include:
  • Canonical slash - Torchwood and other shows where they give it all to us on a silver platter
  • Slashy music vids
  • The Best of Clex
  • The best of slash fic from 2006-2007
  • Writing problems and how to overcome them
  • A good game of "Who's on Top", like we played at Echelon in Ottawa
And I would win some sort of award for writing slashfic, as would the other slash writers I most admire.

The third one sounds a lot like Escapade (http://www.escapadecon.net/)!

I does sound like Escapade, and the one time I got to go to Escapade, I loved it. It was my model for the description.

If only it weren't so expensive and far away!

Where in Lanarkshire? There are still some nice rural bits, but a lot of it is post-industrial/ex-mining.

Where in Lanarkshire? It doesn't really matter where - it's central to some of the action of the Lymond novels. We've already had a bunch of Gatherings in Edinburgh, so I opted for something different - almost said Sterling, but we've been there as a Dunnett group, too. Nice memories.

I might have said Orkney. Though many Dunnett fans have gone to Orkney on their own or as a group, there's never been an actual Gathering there.
