I got this meme from [livejournal.com profile] silverwhistle, who presented it in honour of Aubrey Beardsley - an artist I admire. My own version of it will have to be in honour of Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate I admire.

This despite the fact that I don't drink and have a secret horror of drunkenness. Go figure. How'd I ever make it through university?

I came out rum too. but absinthe was a very close second. That's a bit worrying...

Why worrying? Doesn't it just mean you're a tormented aesthete?

I got wine and absinthe 2nd... not sure what to think of that.

Go not-drinking-people, we're just as fucked up but way more efficient at it!

Some of us drink sensibly: with meals, or just a nice glass of something in the evening. I utterly despise drunkenness, and the grotesque binge-drinking culture that has come to disfigure social life here in the UK. It used to be that people (unless they were out-and-out winos) were ashamed to be seen drunk in public: now it seems that most of the under-30s are like this, especially at weekends. It's one reason I never go out in the evening.

I don't see a lot of drunken people in the streets, but it bothers me when I do. Yeah, it seems to be a youth culture thing.

It's something that's got worse here over the past 15-20 years, with girls as well as boys. It used to be that public drunkenness was considered something to be ashamed of: now the youngsters seem to believe it's their right. They go out in order to get drunk.
