John Barrowman on the subject of being gay and out, quoted on barrowmanfans, from an inteview by from The Lesbian & Gay Foundation. I can't see a date on it.
I was never really ‘in’ amongst my colleagues, and my friends. I’ve just always been me. I believe you shouldn’t have to proclaim your sexuality. I understand why we have to do it, but I don’t feel people should have to do it if they don’t want to. I have friends who are gay thathave never publicly said it, but they still live a gay lifestyle and I’m perfectly comfortable with that. I was asked in a Playbill interview for America about dating, and I said I’d been with my partner for 13 years, and I kid you not, the guy’s jaw dropped. I thought to myself, ”What have I just done?” Not in the sense of like, oops I’ve made a mistake but I thought why is he reacting like this? He said, “Do you realise what you just said?” and I said, ”Yes.”, and he said, “Did you want to say it?”, and I said, “Well I just said it”, and he said, “Why’d you say it?”, and I said, “Because it’s a truth, it’s a fact.” I thought to myself, I’m in my thirties and I live with another man, I have two dogs that are groomed better than some people,my house is minimalist, and I’m in musical theatre… what other clues do you want?

"Honest John" - that sums him up, doesn't it? He is what he is, and does it with more energy than most of us can ever summon up!
