...Though it didn't start out so well: I woke up at 5 am with cramps, probably ovulation cramps. Took a painkiller and went back to sleep, dreaming that my father came to visit with a coterie of nurses. (Signs of being worried about him, I suppose.)

I woke up properly about 8:30, and went for breakfast at Ikea with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi. The breakfast was fun and they were crowded. [livejournal.com profile] maaseru bought furniture; I bought a cutting board for $2.99 and a packet of Scandinavian Potato Chips.

Then I went to work cleaning up the place - real, serious decluttering. Remember my New Year's resolution to get rid of one thing daily? I haven't been doing very well. Three or four things a week, maybe. Not good enough. I made up for it today, probably by a factor of three or more.

Then I made Four Happiness Pork for dinner, and about 4:30 pm my friends arrived for a video-party: Sandi, Pat, Lyn, Beulah, Sheila and Harry. We watched the Torchwood episode "Day One" - everyone except Harry had already seen episode one - and then we watched The Sarah Jane Adventures, followed by more Torchwood: everyone enjoyed "Ghost Machine" so much they didn't want to stop, so we watch "Cyberwoman" as well. In honour of the Chinese Year of the Pig, we wore read (well, some of us did) and everyone brought Chinese food - which made it all the more fun to see them eating Chinese food in "Day One", just like we were. I particularly liked the Chinese salad that Lyn brought, and Harry brought a kind of tea I'd never had - Balsam Pear Tea. It was delicious.

It feels like a long day, now, but it was a good one. The only bad part: I lost my favourite winter gloves somewhere in Ikea. They must have fallen out of my pocket. Unfortunate, but not disastrous.

Yes. I hate waking up feeling that way. Especially at 5 am.

I know how you feel: I'm running on Ibuprofen at the moment.

Yeah. I hate to get on here and just complain and complain and complain but I was awake - twice - in the night with cramps again last night. Most unpleasant! Then to make up for lost sleep I didn't get up to do my excercises, and will have to do weights when I get home from work, which is never as much fun.

Okay, end of complaint. Probably not the end of abdominal cramps, though I can hope. It makes me suspect that I have endometriosis still/again, which I don't think I can do much about.

Worth getting it investigated - there is more that can be done these days, and it is best to make sure it's nothing worse.

I know. I probably should. The thing is that I've been coping with this for so long - decades - and the doctors have been pretty much useless. I've concluded that it's either caused or exacerbated by the candidiasis, which I'm pretty much keeping under control with diet. When I go to doctors there are usually a large and unpleasant series of tests, whereupon after a few weeks or months they inform me that I don't have cancer (good), I do have cysts (not good but not terrible), and we're no closer to solving the pain problem, which can more or less be kept at a low level with ibuprofin. So I tend to avoid the doctors, and don't press them on a possible edometriosis diagnosis.

But it does leave me with the occasional uncomfortable night still. And the pain is much, much less than it used to be.

Well, there's stuff they can do now like endometrial oblation, & c.

Yeah, I should think about it.

Love and hugs! Glad you had lots of Whovian/Torchwood fun!
I had some computer problems last night, but now sorted.

Computer problems can be such a pain - scary because you never know if they'll be simple to fix, or impossible. I am forever thankful I have people around like Sheila and Sandi who at the very least keep me from panicking - and who usually do much more than that.

I got on the phone to [livejournal.com profile] flybynightpress, who gave me the advice I needed. It was a problem with my printer/scanner drivers and software. Some permissions had gone wonky, and the programme I use for scanning was looking for an obsolete TWAIN connection that had been superseded in an upgrade of the software.

I haven't tried using my scanner at home for a while. I should scan something, just to make sure I can. At the moment I can't scan at work, either - my scanner drivers got lost in the recent power failure and I have to replace them. Can't find the CD. Must get around to fixing this sometime today.

Under these weather circumstances...I'd be tempted to call the loss of gloves near-disastrous in any case.

Lately I've been wearing two pairs of gloves at once! Yes, I have other gloves to wear - but they were favourites.

Which reminds me of this pair I spotted recently at a local store. I must check to see if they're still in stock. Soon.

I would find the loss of gloves a *serious* blow. However, I'm still relying on the same pair that I brought back from England, even if they aren't really capable of keeping my fingers warm ... and are now coming apart at the seams.

Someday, Real Soon Now, I have to buy a new pair -- even if the skinflint in me would rather keep the existing pair functional till at least spring. :-)

I was hoping to make those gloves last, too! They're not crucial, it's a $20 pair I bought at the Bay in December - not terribly warm, but good enough for the weather we had all through January, and good enough to make them as liners in another pair of larger gloves or mits for the Really Cold Weather. I didn't love them because they were warm, just because they were pretty - they were a nice red/burgundy colour.
