[livejournal.com profile] silversolitaire created some hilarious spoof movie posters at not_gold. There was one I didn't get ("Dude, where's my SUV"?) and even it was funny. My favourite: "Gone With the TARDIS" because it fits so beautifully with the plotline of Torchwood. Having said that... "Fellowship of the Rift" is rather wonderful too.

Ow, thanks!

The Dude, where's my SUV comes from a picspam of Countricide, I think. I may be wrong, but that's what I connect it with... if you want to, I can look it up and link...

My confusion was because I didn't know what movie was being parodied. Turns out there was a 2000 movie called Dude, Where's My Car? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242423/), which, if I ever heard of it, is exactly the kind of movie I would ignore to the point of forgetting I ever heard of it. Hence my confusion! The perils of being a movie snob.

Now I know, the connection with Torchwood in general and "Countricide" in particular seems brilliant. Put Tosh in Ianto's place and it could apply to "Captain Jack Harkness".

Well, yep, the movie is not exactly... Erm... Well, when I tried watching it, I didn't find it particularly interesting. Not even overly funny...

(I wouldn't have even heard of the movie on my own. I was visiting with somebody, I think.)

It just goes to prove that not all movies are good. Even without the title and the style of the original poster, I'd avoid a movie that starred Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner - I still feel vaguely scarred from seeing her as Elektra. Elektra, if you aren't familiar with the character, is a brilliant comic book anti-hero created by Frank Miller (the same man who did Sin City) - she's a sharp, brilliant, vicious assassin. Jennifer Garner playing her in the movie was a sad wimp. I hold that against her.

Well, maybe not too seriously....

Oh. I wasn't acquainted with the character.

I saw the movie on a bus, and as movies shown on buses go, I rather liked it (well... _some_ companies show very nice movies; others... don't). I sort of liked the visual of it, and there was emotional impact that I appreciated.
I liked it better than Maid in Manhattan, which was shown on the same trip.

I'm sure it all depends on your expectations!

I liked Maid in Manhattan, but that's mostly because I like the leads. It wasn't a memorable movie, but pleasant enough to watch.

Yep, it's all expectations. Watching Electra with an unloaded mind was nice.

And yep, Maid in Manhattan was pleasant. I didn't dislike it - just liked it less. Perhaps I wasn't in the mood for romance on that trip. More for excitement...

I'm not sure what was wrong with Maid in Manhattan but it didn't quite have the emotional impact it should have.

Those are fun! I also like the 'Lesser of Two Weevils' icon!

So do I - the connotations and reference is such fun, and so apropos.

"Dammit, Janet!" would make a good Weevil caption, too...
There's a thought: the Rocky Horror Show, with Janet the Weevil...

LOL - yes, perfect!

Now you have me wondering; we only know what Jack named one of the weevils taken by Torchwood. Do you think the other one might have been Brad?

I suspect he is Brad.

That's it... Brad and Janet: 2 innocent, everyday Weevils, sucked into the strange, depraved world of Torchwood!
Jack has to be Frank; Tosh and Gwen are Magenta and Columbia (not sure which way round); Ianto and Owen - RiffRaff and Eddie. Dr Everett Scott - the Japanese cyber expert. And I'm sure there's a role for Ptery. (And Rhys as Rocky?!)

They were lost one dark night in unfamiliar territory: it was the only place they could find shelter, a light in the darkness....

Jack has to be Frank

No question of that, though Owen would envy the costume.

Tosh and Gwen are Magenta and Columbia (not sure which way round);

They take turns on alternate days.

Ianto and Owen - RiffRaff and Eddie

Or Eddie and RiffRaff.

And Rhys as Rocky?!

Or PC Andy. Or Jack's friend the Roman soldier.

Precisely!

No question of that, though Owen would envy the costume.

Snurk! Yes! The fishnets!

Or Jack's friend the Roman soldier.

LOL!

Yes, she looks primed for it, doesn't she? I wonder if she can sing and dance in those heels. (What am I saying? Of course she can!)
