Battlestar Galactica: 3x12 Rapture...
Jan. 24th, 2007 10:16 amI watched the latest Battlestar Galactica episode "Rapture" last night and loved it. As usual; and as usual, it was intense. I don't think I ever breathe while watching that show.
- Loved, absolutely loved, the interaction between Starbuck and Dualla.
- I have been living in trepidation for a year now about what would happen when Sharon learns about Hera being alive. So it's happened, and I was so impressed by every stage of the action: that Adama instantly told Helo and Sharon the truth; that it brought Helo and Sharon even more together rather than driving them apart; that Sharon took action, and succeeded in recovering the baby; that she was true to Helo and Galactica. And the scene where Helo shot Sharon... wow. It reminded me of the scene where Tigh killing Ellen, but a variation on the theme: men killing their beloved spouses for good reasons, even heroic reasons.
- It always strikes me as odd that Hera has such curly hair, but what do I know of Cylon genetics?
- I dislike Roslin more all the time. I try not to, but - as with so many shows - my initial like and dislike of characters often becomes more and more ingrained. Roslin's actions don't help. At first I disliked Cally as well, but I've come to think she's okay - she just doesn't have a strong personality so she fits into whatever plot-space they want to put her into. I still dislike Chief and I dislike Roslin more all the time.
- So: which is cuter, Sam Anders or Lee Adama? I don't know but my goodness I love looking at them both, especially when they are in full macho mode.
- I love it inexpressibly much that Lee so shamelessly sent his wife to save Starbuck at the risk of her own life. And that she did it. And that she resented it.
- Starbuck seems to change and evolve subtly all the time.
- Since I don't much like D'Anna, I'm rather glad she appears to be gone. It isn't so much that I don't like her as that I find her bland compared to Six. Six has the same religious fixation, but with a snarky and sexy manner that makes her both entertaining and dangerous. When D'Anna was around, Six was getting short shrift in terms of the story. Love the way they 'boxed' her.
- The visuals on the Cylon ship just seem more and more striking all the time. What staging. What drums.
- The murder of the other Sharon shocked me. In a good way.
- I liked the look of the Temple interior and the way the pyrotechnics worked - very video-game, I felt as if I was playing Riven again. I also liked the coda, that Starbuck had painted the Eye of Jupiter way back when and Helo remembered it.
- I liked Adama's ploy with the missiles.
So... is Baltar going to be back on Galactica? With a corporeal Six?
