A wonderful evening.

After work, I made a brief but satisfying visit to the Silver Snail for my weekly comics, and then met [livejournal.com profile] commodorified at a local bookstore, where we found a treasure trove of second-hand Georgette Heyer paperbacks. Then we met Alayne and [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale for supper at The Vietnamese Kitchen, where we discussed Torchwood union regulations and high points of Captain Jack's dialogue. We agreed that Captain Jack's best line is, "Under any other circumstances, an exuberant Roman soldier would be my idea of a perfect morning." - though we had trouble remembering the key word 'exuberant' and I reserve the right to change my mind about this tomorrow.

After bubble tea for dessert (mango!), we went to the Clock Tower Brew Pub, where Guy Gavriel Kay gave a reading from his new book, Ysabel, which I had started reading, with great pleasure, at lunchtime. Beautiful, beautiful prose: I'd love it whatever the subject, but the subject is a medieval cathedral - among other things - so I'm enjoying it doubly. I didn't read far at lunchtime, though, only to about page 20, and Guy Kay read a section from a little further on, so it was delightfully new to me. I got his autograph on both Ysabel and his poetry book Beyond This Dark House, and a hug, which was even better, and a chance for a brief conversation.

Aw. MM. I think I could force myself. For the cause, you see.

I think I know which lines would be my pick for worst Jack lines, though. Never mind. Feeling a little strange today, perhaps starting to watch again, looking for best Jack lines will do good to restore me to my usual cheerful mood. :) It is a wonderful idea!

I don't know how many it would be, though. I'll just scribble down what I like, then try to order them, and post the result to my LJ eventually. *grins*

If you can, I can. See, I can't let it be known that you are more intrepid than I. Into the breach!

Worst lines? Which ones?

Yes, I'll use that methodology too... It might be fun to pick best and worst lines from each episode, ending up with 13 of each. We shall see.

Worst lines - and mind you, my impression was that JB thought the same about them... - were the ones when he was calming Gwen at the very end of The Ghost Machine.

Don't get me wrong - I love the scene. But I felt like strangling the script writer for ... coming up with... such complicated and inappropriate words at that moment.
When I saw the picspam of Cyberwoman (by [profile] megwriting, there was a pic with the caption "JB pleads to be allowed to pee on the script. BG calls his agent.", I just thought of those lines... (I know, I know Cyberwoman is among your favourites; I just thought this caption - and some of the others, for the other eps, too, sooo funny)

Okay, now I have a reason to watch The Ghost Machine again, as if I needed a reason. I don't remember what he said. I remember that I liked the body language more than the dialogue.

The scripts are so variable. Rushed in the composing, perhaps? Some lines are real clunkers and it's a shame when they're JB's lines.

That is a funny caption.

Well... liking the body language more than the dialog is such a nice way to put it. *grins* I like it!

Yep, the caption is good. It's on a pic where Jack has his hands together asking Ianto for some coffee magic...
