Van Helsing...

Found another Van Helsing page - and antique, but not one I'd seen:

Why am I so excited about this movie? - well, Hugh Jackman and David Wenham are two obvious reasons. But by that argument I should be looking forward to "Pirates of the Caribbean" just as much (with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom) and I don't. I may well go to see it, but I feel no enthusiasm. Perhaps because I only want to see Bloom as Legolas, and this won't be the same? Perhaps because Jackman and Wenham and biggies in my pantheon? Perhaps because Disney movies never excite me so much, and since a few recent Disney disappointments (like The Music Man, this is doubly true? Perhaps because I've heard the dread word "camp" used in connection with Pirates, and that word usually makes me run screaming.
Or perhaps the vampire-lover in me is not dead. About twenty years ago I 'discovered' vampires in a big way with Mravel's Tomb of Dracula, a wonderful series done by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, the Dracula movie with Frank Langella (besides which all others pale), and Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.
In recent years, though, I find them less interesting - or at least, there has been no version of vampires that interests me. The movie version of Interview with the Vampire was all right, but didn't excite me - I liked Queen of the Damned more, because, though flawed, it had style. I don't like any of the vampires on Buffy except Spike - but Spike is a biggie, I confess.
I had rather thought my interest in vampire lore was a thing of the past. We shall see.
