[livejournal.com profile] medelle's livejournal page has a wonderful banner which features Captain Jack Harkness, the Ninth Doctor and the Tenth Doctor. As if this were not enough reason to admire her, she also has a beautiful Methos icon. This makes me putty in her hands. So to speak.

So when I saw this on her LJ yesterday, I had to respond, and now it is time to put the same meme on my LJ:
Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one thing about you I like/find interesting. Then put this in your own journal, and spread the attention.

Oh... me, please? (Although I feel guilty - I already made trixtah compliment me in such a thread...)

If [livejournal.com profile] trixtah complimented you and you complimented her back, it's only fair, right?

At first I wanted to say what I like and notice about you is your curiosity. Then I realized that it's a quality we share and that it probably sounds a little narcissistic of me to point it out, so scratch that one.

A second choice: I like your ability to analyze and discuss material you like with clear judgement, even when you are partial. You have a capacity for seeing the whole picture and understanding things in a open-minded way.

Sadly, the banner was not made by me - although the icon was. :)

Oh and Im a compliment whore today, so shoot! :D (er not literally)

Well chosen, though, and such delightful subject matter.

It's okay, I'm a pacifist. I only shoot figuratively.

What I find outstanding about you is your sense of proportion. In a way it's a visual thing - you are very artistic - but also in the way you describe things and assess them. It's a wonderful quality to see. I'm tempted to call it 'balance', and it includes balance, but there's more to it than that.

Well, I DID chose the subject matter, but I didn't exactly chose the banner itself.

See, every year for my birthday [livejournal.com profile] littlekfru makes me a new layout of my chosing. This year I told her that I wanted something blue with Jack/Nine/Ten. What you see is what she came up with. :)

Commas are dangerous creatures. I tend to use them way too liberally and they sometimes fight back.

The thing I most admire about you is your perseverence in scholarly study while still coping with depression and poor health. When I was depressed, and when I am ill, I become a very bad student. Your capacity to continue with your studies impresses me.

I also like the way you are kind to others, which I think is probably the most important quality anyone can have.

oh thank you. the thing is, clinging to intellectual work is for me one of the barriers against depression. It is no foolprrof and there have been times it worked better, but even so. When some totally ridicualous thought tries to get hold of your mind and burn out your sense of self it is good to have something to concentrate on.

And I am glad you think I am kind, I try to (eh most of the times) but it is not allways easy to know if you succeed ;-)

And it's a good one. I wish I could master that technique!

As for being kind, I think the intent is half the battle. Just thinking of it, thinking about it.... Many people seem not to care.

my turn? I'd love to know what you think of me, seeing as we haven't known each other very long...

As you say, I don't feel I've known you long or well (yet!) but what I've noticed about you is a sense of humour - a way of phrasing yourself that is both accurate and witty. A combination of seeing things cleverly and expressing it well, in a way that often makes me smile and think, "Yes, that's right!"

Why thank you, I'm always very careful thinking of the way to word things. It makes me happy to know that others notice it.

I'm so needy!

Hee! Aren't we all?

Again, I don't feel as if I've known you long, but what I've noticed is that you are really good at seeing the real point of something - at getting to the point, and making remarks that are unusually insightful because of it. The ability to see through obfuscation or at least read something and see what the author really meant, rather than whatever misleading directions the words might take you in. A kind of clear-sightedness.

You're another person who likes so many of the same things I do that I'd be tempted to focus on that - your exquisite good taste! - but again, that's something we have in common - a happy circumstance.

Ooooh - thank you. I suppose I concentrate on what is at the heart of things and don't get too distracted by the padding around it (although the padding can be great fun, don't get me wrong!). And I agree - we do have fantastic taste.

I just want to say that I'm glad we ran into each other in LJ-land. I love your posts and the discussions they provoke. You make me think about things in a new way and point out stuff that I may have subconsciously noticed but had not really put together. And you love Captain Jack!

Well, thank you for the nice comments about my posts. I'm glad I make you think about things in a new way - I love doing that! And I love it when something I read does it for me, or sparks a new train of thought or (even better) creativity.

And I am obviously totally incapable of not loving Captain Jack, who just seems to get better all the time.

One of the (many!) things I like about you is your enthusiasm, and the fact that you're not jaded about fannish stuff we both like. I can happily read your journal without my squee getting rained on and going all sad and soggy... ;)

This is the way this is supposed to work, yes? I post something about you here and then you do the same in my journal. Assuming I ever post the meme, that is.

Date: 2007-01-15 02:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
Good heavens, no, I'm not jaded about anything, I don't think. Well, maybe X-Files because they dropped the ball so badly in the end, but that was long ago and far away and easy to dismiss now. I find it easy to be enthusiastic about my loves, and difficult not to be. And I try not to rain on anyone's squee, even when it's not a fandom I share. (But I haven't noticed you squeeing over Supernatural, as so many people on my flist do.)

Well, I see you haven't posted, so I'll answer you here. What I like about you is your openness and sincerity. I was going to say "friendliness and hospitality" but it isn't just that, even though that's the way it manifests sometimes. It's that you are so real, so unpretentious, and so honest about your thoughts - it's truly a delight to know you.
