But first I browsed my friends lists, which can currently be subdivided into three parts: (1) Those who have read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, (2) those who are in the middle of reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and (3) Those who haven't read it, who probably don't much care.

Hmm. I haven't read it. This makes reading my friends' list pretty simple - downright sparse - at the moment, just skipping all the Harry Potter talk. I enjoyed the conversation between [livejournal.com profile] ubertood and [livejournal.com profile] dolimir about cute guys. Michael Rosenbaum, uh-huh. Good pictures from "Rave Macbeth" but I really prefer him without hair - which is simply to say, I prefer the pictures of Lex. I want to see "Rave Macbeth" though. Presumably someday it will fall into my hands somehow.

The Harry Potter book however caused me to do something I have never done before: I read the last page in the bookstore. I am a person who hates spoilers, who never, never reads endings before beginnings and middles, and who thought she never would do such a thing. I felt extemely radical and wild doing such a thing yesterday.

The wicked novelty of it has, however, worn off, and I've already forgotten what was on the last page. Without all those preceeding pages it doesnt' mean so much.

Which is probably why I never do that, normally.

There's a fourth category: those whose book has been delayed so haven't read it but are desperately trying to remain spoiler free. I might be the only person in that category! *g*

No, I know two other people in your position. Hang in there!

Meanwhile, I've been reading spoilers like mad, and have been interested in the variety of reactions.

Good pictures from "Rave Macbeth"

Mmmph.. do you have a link? [livejournal.com profile] thamiris posted the most ridiculously hot review of MR in that movie, and I've been drooling ever since.

I read the last page in the bookstore

Hee! I read the last line. Didn't make any sense at all. I do that a lot though. Sometimes I just can't help myself. It hasn't spoiled a book for me yet. But I'm like third in line to read OoTP, my friends and I are sharing a copy. Luckily I'm not in a rush. God help the person who stands between me and the next Dark Tower book though!

The Rave Macbeth pictures are at

The last page of OotP doesn't make much more sense than the last line. Yes, I'm sharing a copy with friends too, and I'm probably about third in line.... I'm not sure how long it will be till I see it.

As for Dark Tower - I feel that way about George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series.

that sound you just heard was me falling out of my chair.

Must. Get. That. Movie.

Or make new icons. I can't decide which.

Guh. Thanks for that.

The only thing about HP that remotely interests me either is who she killed. Who was it? (No copies out at the bookstore last night)

I hope no one reads this who doesn't want spoilers.

Okay.

It's Sirius Black.

I've been looking for a copy to leaf through all weekend, but there are just none out, anywhere. I want to know what happens, but I'm not desperate to actually read the nearly 900 pages. I keep hoping for a Cliff Notes version. I want to keep up with what's happening in the Potterverse without reading it all. In some circles I would be vilified for that, so I'm hesitant who I admit it to. Most of my friends consider any less than a passionate interest in the new book as sacreligious. I have nooo problem with spoilers, and learned who had died hours before the book was even released here. I don't think it'll have a huge impact on the future books.

But you know I'm safe. I will no doubt read the book at some point, but I don't feel in any hurry, and I too want to know 'what's happening' in the Potterverse, especially with regard to my favourite characters. I must confess that there are some characters routinely discussed by fans, whose identity or existence I can't even remember.

I'm on the list of people who can borrow it from Beulah, so it will eventually come my way. Hey, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about it when that day comes - but it won't be terribly soon!

Ditto, exactly. As with LoTR, my interest in HP is mostly through the films and who has been cast in them (and who might be cast in the future). I am interested in what happens, just not desperately or obsessively. I expect I'll be able to borrow it some day, but it might be out in p/b by then! I will survive ;-)

Ooofff.... I saw someone's Harry icon in b&w that just about did me in...it was veeery nice!

Aren't icons fun? I've seen some terrific HP icons.
