Bathroom redecoration...

I redecorated the bathroom a little yesterday. I now have the following pictures on my bathroom walls:

(1) Over the towel rack, on the right: The lovely picture of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor that was in this month's issue of Doctor Who Magazine, with his hand on his head.

(2) Over the towel rack, on the left: The picture of Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper that was the lead picture in the Starburst feature on Torchwood last month. Gwen is dressed the way Gwen dresses, in black shirt and trousers; Jack is dressed in jeans and a black leather jacket, which is totally atypical of the man who always wears "period military". This is not to say he isn't suitably attractive in jeans and a black leather jacket, just that it looks more like the Jack of Doctor Who than of Torchwood. Perhaps he's in a transitional phase? Or incognito?

(4) On the wall by the door: A picture of the TARDIS, with the Doctor and Martha in the foreground.

(5) Beside that: A picture of Rose and Nine.

(6) Below that: a calendar, with a picture of Nine and Rose - the "Bad Wolf" page from the 2006 calendar. I have mixed and matched the pictures, since the calendar tends to show too many alien monsters for my taste, and too few Time Lords. I have scissors. I can fix that.

eh.... is it a theme bathroom?


and a practical question, what precisely is a bathroom? it sounds to me like you only have a toilet? Or is the bath/shower far away? If I would put up ictures it would all get wet the first time I take a shower. Maybe I could laminate them?

In my personal vocabulary - and in my apartment - it's a room with a bathtub (or shower stall), toilet, and washbasin. A room with only a toilet and washbasin, I'd call a 'powder room', which I admit sounds like something an estate agent would say, and most of my friends would casually call them 'bathrooms' too, even though they don't have a bath.

I didn't mention the bathtub because I don't put any pictures in that area. They'd get soggy. The bathtub is about ... hmm... about a meter away from the closest picture. The pictures don't seem to be damaged by the steam. They might be if I left them for years but I usually change the pictures more than once a year. The pictures are all in frames with glass protecting them.

The fun of having a fannishly-decorated bathroom is that whenever I go in there I can look at my current fannish favourites and it makes me smile.

It can have a bit of a downside. When it was decorated in Smallville pictures, I had a friend go in there and wail, "I can't pee with Clark Kent looking at me!" I told her to put a towel over the picture for as long as necessary.

in my last house we had a separete toilet room (just called toilet or WC (water closet, the most common name for a loo). That was decorated. But my curent bathroom is all in clusive, well shower and not bath. It is about 1,5 m by 1,5 and when I shower allmost everything gets wet.

It is not completely sterile because it is painted dark red. It was when I moved in here and I still like it.

I once had an apartment with a bathroom sort of like that - just a shower stall, no bathtub, which is rare in Canada. That apartment was the converted middle floor of an old house. I liked it because I always shower anyway, but I also like the space that a bathtub adds to a bathroom because it keeps me from feeling claustrophobic. Breathing room.

LOL. It all depends on what you're used to. I imagine Pablo or Billy's unblinking stares might put some people off.

I didn't mind Pablo or Billy, but then, I don't mind Clark Kent, either. Or, clearly, the TARDIS and Torchwood crew. I'm casual that way.

Eeeeeee! Is Santa not overburdened? Yes, he'd be on my list... As would be Ten and Rose...

Since I don't have any Doctor Who action figures, the action figure currently gracing the bathroom is Aragorn, weilding his sword with a tower behind him, on the little shelf under my mirror and over my sink. The tower is from the Cellini chess set, about 5" high. The Aragorn is a rare unarticulated one that I thoroughly love.

I wonder how the reindeer would get along with the pterodactyl. I wonder whether the pterodactyl would resent their using his flying space. I suppose it would be fine as long as no one was shooting that barbecue sauce around.

Waking up people all along the route - "What is that terrible screeching?" Reindeer at least know how to be quiet. (Unlike pterodactyls and budgies.)

I'm guessing your bathroom is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside?

I have a gorgeous vintage poster of the Galaxy Express 999 movie sandwiched between two huge 1/8 inch thick acrylic sheets on my bathroom wall, and the steam does not seem to have been able to find a way into it even after two years. I also have a painting of Nausicca, from another Japanese animated movie -- it's sandwiched tightly between a sheet of glass and a sheet of pressed MDF (MDF is basically glue mixed with woodchips, so it's not very porous). The glass beads up, then the water evaporates -- I think the trick is to avoid wooden frames.

Dr. Who-wise: I have a lovely PR shot of Lalla Ward (Romana) in Victorian dress in a rowboat in Shada in the bedroom. But the piece de resistance is the Dr. Qui dans son TARDIS poster in the kitchen. I found it online: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eclipsepics/71073656/
