Cappuccino
The Via Veneto in springtime was always magnificent. Lex sat at a sidewalk cafe? with today's "La Reppublica" beside him, and a cappuccino aromatically steaming.
Life was good. Rome was good. So was girl he'd slept with last night.
He thought he saw Clark out of the corner of his eye. Clark Kent, here in Rome? No. A second look made him realize his mistake: someone older, more ordinary, similarly large and dark-haired.
He sipped the cappuccino, and tried to forget the illusion. Life was beautiful, bella, bellissimo.... But there was no one to talk to about it. No one who would listen with those wide, dark eyes, enjoying it with him.
Life was boring without Clark. For the first time ever, Lex was homesick, and not for a place.
He flipped open his phone. "Maria? Check on the flights going home, would you?"
