I got brave this morning, and I took a pill.

Nine days ago I started my new blood pressure pills; ramipril, brand name Altace. I had a horrible reaction. It turned off my brain. After three days of brain-dead, immobilized, depressive, zombielike fatigue, I stopped taking the pills. Felt fine once I stopped.

So the doctor gave me new pills. She called them ARBs, which seems to stand for "angiotensin II receptor blockers". She suggested I might want to take them near the weekend, since the last set of pills rendered me unfit for work. These new ones are called losartan; brand name Cozaar. I like the way these drugs all sound as if they come from some faraway planet.

I got the pills on Tuesday. I was afraid to take them. Little blue things.

This morning, I finally took one. And you know what? The fear and trepidation seem to have been unwarranted. I took the pill eight hours ago and I feel great.

What a relief.

yeah!

such things, reactions are soo individual.
Don't know whether you read about this research about different genetic types and being able to predict if someone will do well on SSRI type antidepressants. It would be great progress in medicine if it could be come less trial and error.

Anyway, hope this med will work its way for you

Yes - I usually react very strongly, and sometimes unusually, to drug. So I tend to avoid them whenever possible. I get high on Dimetapp, many things just put me to sleep, I get odd delayed reactions to caffeine, wine makes me hyper... And so on.

It would be wonderful if they could figure out what genetic types can use which drugs. There must be a clear biochemical rationale. It's all so complicated.

Thanks for the good wishes, I'm sure my blood pressure is plummeting just the way it ought to.

I'm trying to visualize it too. Blood platelets Falling downward like autumn leaves. (What? That doesn't make sense...)

Okay, numbers like in The Matrix, all running downwards....
