A photo-article about Paris Hilton: Why Paris Hilton is Famous in a Post-Madonna World that, for all its shallowness, suddenly made sense of a phenomenon that otherwise doesn't make sense. Paris Hilton isn't so much famous for being famous, she's famous for being shallow. Which is a good trick.

The best line: "The most valuable commodity today is attention." Though I suspect it has always been true: It's just more obvious these days.

I'm sure there were just as many vain, shallow, and pointless people in the past as there are now; it's just that they aren't the ones who make it to history because they are so forgettable. And we can quite safely ignore them, past or present.
