Months ago I found a comic book advertised online, called The Horns of Hattin. A comic book about my crusaders - can it get better than that? But I lost the link and couldn't remember the name of the publisher or the writer/artist. I knew I wrote it down somewhere. I still don't know where.

Well: I must have left my e-mail address with them because they sent me a notice for one of their other comics, and now I have their name and website: Terra Major.

There's also one about Roland, as in Chanson de Roland. I'm going to have to make an order with these people.

Hope the artwork's good!
BTW: browsing for Lion-Boy books in the library the other day, I saw one (forget which) that said Guy was 64 when he married Sibylla! Squawk! The poor chap never reached 50, as far as I'm aware! They must be thinking of Jean de Brienne!

Thos Lusignan boys - their ages are cited all over the map. And I'd love to know the source of the traditional date of Aimery's birth as 1145. I'm not disputing it, I just wonder where it came from. One source had him becoming King of Jerusalem when he was eighty!

Usually it's done by counting backwards from when they first witness charters or are noted in battle, 15 being the usual age of competency. With the Lusignans, I think sometimes people confuse generations because they often reuse names (all the Hughs!).

Well, that is true, and it's a sensible way to approach the subject; but I haven't yet found the documentation in Aimery's case. One of these days....

And yes, not just the Hughs... there were Lusignans named Geoffrey and Guy in several generations in a row, and it's a headache to sort the nephews from the uncles. They should have left more notes.

Exactly! But it's fairly clear Guy was a young man at the time of the marriage. His first known activity was the Salisbury killing in '68, as far as I recall.

William of Tyre, who strongly disapproves of Guy, calls him "a young man of fairly good rank" (Babcock translation) when he marries Sybilla. I don't think there's any dispute about that. And yes, as far as I know, the Salisbury reference is Guy's first mention in history.

This should be a question for [livejournal.com profile] mississippienne over at [livejournal.com profile] oltramar. She's our resident genealogist!

Re-using all those names sounds positively Barrayaran, n'est-ce pas? ;)

[insert rampant speculation about Lois' prior reading matter here.]
