Welcome to Squeaky...
Jul. 23rd, 2006 02:42 pmThere is, for the time being, another resident in my household. There's me, the three budgies, and now a little furry creature named Squeaker. She is said to be a guinea pig, but I'll swear she's a mutant tribble. She has the mutant power of mesmerizing people to sit cuddling and petting her (and feeding her bits of carrots) ad infinitim. She has already used her wicked wiles of cuteness on me and
Soft, too. Tan-brown fur with reddish patches. Bright red eyes with reflect the light so they look as if they're glowing, like Gambit. When I look at pictures of guinea pigs online, they don't seem to have red eyes. I knew it! A mutant tribble.
Awwww...

what are the names of the birds?
The blue one is Logan.
The green one is Gambit.
The white one is Pryde.
<>For nearly 14 years, we had a lovely green budgie called Magnus, who used to speak with my father's voice.
Aww, how clever! And it fits my pattern of naming budgies after my favourite members of the X-Men - Magneto is often called Magnus.

Date: 2006-07-24 12:30 am (UTC)We got him when I was 9, and he lived until I was a post-grad. He sang South of the Border, Down Mexico Way with a Rothesay accent, would play-fight with fingers, and ride on a miniature field-gun on wheels, which we would push along on the carpet on his 'out' excursions (with windows and doors closed and reflective surfaces covered, for safety). I wept for at least 2 hours when my parents wrote to tell me he'd died. (They couldn't bring themselves to do it over the phone, as my grandmother was visiting at the time and it would have upset her, as she had lost her budgie, too.)

Date: 2006-07-24 12:58 pm (UTC)How very cool! I picture him with a fierce horned helmet, like Asterix with feathers. (Yes, I know Asterix wasn't a Viking and I believe Vikings didn't wear horned helmets, but it's still a great image.)
ride on a miniature field-gun on wheels
Oh dear. Now my little guys want their own miniature field-gun. What is it with budgies and artillery? My budgies' favourite moment in television is when they bring out the cannon on Horatio Hornblower and Horatio (or Bush or someone) shouts "Fire!" and then BOOM. Much budgie joy every time.

Date: 2006-07-24 02:25 pm (UTC)Dad and I have been collaborators in imaginative weirdness from my infancy, when we used to copy the maps from Tolkien together. Mother, on the other hand, is scarily mundane...
What is it with budgies and artillery?
I didn't realise it was a common interest with them... What fun!

Date: 2006-07-24 01:43 pm (UTC)I've had that happen with international calls. I was delighted that you finally got through! I will certainly relay your cuddles to Squeaky when I get home tonight, she will appreciate it. The birdlets are proud to be (noisily) delightful.
