Kinky Boots...
Jun. 10th, 2006 09:57 pmThis evening Sheila and I went to see Kinky Boots starring Joel Edgerton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Now, can anyone tell me how to actually pronounce Ejiofor's name?
I loved it. First of all, it was funny. And humanistic. It reflected the world as I know it with that ring of truth that a lot of movies based on 'actual events' never have. And Ejiofor's level of talent is remarkable. He was the one who played the tough Operative chasing after River in Serenity. I had no idea.
I would have said I'd never seen Joel Edgerton before, but now I look at his credits I see he's been in several movies where I not only saw him (e.g., Star Wars) but in movies in which I actually liked him. He was Gawain in King Arthur, for example. This time, he reminded me, just a little, of Stephen Rea. This is a good thing.
But I think in this case the greatest kudos should go to the writing team of Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, who produced a script that was funny and touching and all the things a good script ought to be.
And who would have guessed there were so many songs written about shoes?
