I had a dream about [livejournal.com profile] rosiespark. In the dream, she had come to visit me in Ottawa. ([livejournal.com profile] commodorified would like that too.) Guy Gavriel Kay had also come to Ottawa, and was doing a reading from his new book, the one whose subject he has not yet divulged. Unfortunately, my dream did not divulge the subject either, but it was a great reading!

Then I learned that [livejournal.com profile] rosiesparrk was going to Toronto and then directly back to Malta and I wouldn't be seeing her again. I was so disappointed, I woke up.

[livejournal.com profile] rosiespark, have you had any dreams about Ottawa lately?

I can't say that I have, but I have got the beautiful calendar that you, Beulah and Lynn sent me at Christmas hanging on the wall over the kitchen table, so I have been thinking about Ottawa at intervals. The May and June pics have featured beautiful gardens and lots of tulips. So much so that my mum wondered if it was Holland!

Speaking of G G Kay, I haven't read The Last Light of the Sun yet. It's on my wishlist but there always seem to be other things I want more. What did you think of it - I seem to remember you liked it?

Oh, and I clicked hopefully on [livejournal.com profile] rosiesparrk and was disappointed there's no such user. I was hoping to discover an alter ego who's a pirate. *g*

Does the calendar explain why there are so many tulips in Ottawa? During World War II, the Queen of the Netherlands came her to have a safe place to stay. In gratitude, the nation has sent Ottawa a collection of tulips every year and we have a Tulip Festival every May, with miles of tulip beds lining our scenic streets. Sadly, I think, this year it was so warm that the tulips all bloomed and died before the festival actually started, but it was still pretty.

I liked The Last Light of the Sun very much, especially the Celtic bits and the depiction of King Alfred (whose name in the book I've forgotten already, but it's not much different); and the Celtic magic. I don't usually like Celtic magic but Kay gives it an interesting angle. Or two.

Too bad about [livejournal.com profile] rosiesparrk not actually existing, it's a fine name!

That's fascinating about the tulips! I find them just slightly repellant, especially up close, but masses of them do look very pretty in parks and gardens.

And [livejournal.com profile] rosiesparrk saved the day today. Photobucket was playing up and refusing to let me log in as rosiespark. So I created a new account as rosiesparrk and happily uploaded my pics. :)

Ahah - so now you have a new secret identity - rosiesparrk! It has a ring to it.

I agree about tulips, generally speaking. Pretty colours, but not a pretty shape, except in quantity. Beds and beds of them along the canal are lovely, though.

We're in iris season, which makes me happy, because I like irises.
