From a Telstra Australia brochure, spotted by Bernard Ryan: "Get your BigPond Movie Downloads even faster with Cable Extreme, our new blistering fast cable broadband service. It's so fast you can even view a full-length feature film in minutes!" - from WORLD WIDE WORDS, ISSUE 488

Goodness! So next time we have a LotR marathon we can get it done in an hour or so :-)

Well, I'm sure Legolas could have run to Fangorn and back in the time it took the other two slowpokes to get there...

View in minutes? Hmm... is that like the old 'I'm so smart I can watch 60 minutes in half an hour' joke?

Mind you, there is nowhere in Australia that supports downloads that fast, and probably won't for a good few years yet, so I wonder if that's a bit of a hoax. Bigpond is a real company, though, and my father has adsl with them. They're crap. Who knows - it might be real, it might not - they'd certainly put out a stupid ad like that if anyone would ;D

Yes, that sounds like it!

I wonder if that's a bit of a hoax.

It could be. The source where I found it seemed to think it was real, but who knows?

I don't think any company has any monopoly on stupidity!

A Dutch comedian made fake news items for a radio show a couple of years ago:

- The Dane Larsen Jensen has beaten the world hour record. He did the hour in exactly 59 minutes and 60 seconds
