Pandora...

cupiscent posted a link to Pandora, the music genome project, which I happily clicked on. It tells me to type the name of an artist or song I like and it will come up with more for me.

Great idea! So I typed "Bizet" and it was flummoxed.

Huh. It's a wuss.

Typing in "Some Enchanted Evening" linked me to Bette Davis' "I've Written a Letter to Daddy", which as far as I can see has little resemblance to "Some Enchanted Evening", but is deliciously funny.

Looks like fun to play with.

P.S. Well, it did look like fun, but I can't play with it.... You have to be in the U.S. to use it. Bummer!

What happened was: I was listening to it with great enjoyment for a while, but the music stopped, and I was told I had to register to get anything more. So I went to register, but it wouldn't accept me without an American zip code.

I wonder if I could use a zip code borrowed from a friend from the U.S. Hmm.

The swines! Hmmmph, I guess I haven't listened that far yet.

And we get iTunes, so there really should be no problem. Oh heck, just borrow that zip!

I tried it once months ago when I first saw a link on my f-list, but it didn't know any of my artists!

I think that's the point - I introduce people to artists they don't already know. I rather like the idea (in theory) but I'm not sure how well it works in practice.
