Northstar, honey!

Confession: It's been ages since I read Uncanny X-Men. Lately I've been buying every issue and saving them up for a rainy day.
Today, out of perverse curiosity, I started to read the new issue, #425, by Chuck Austen and Philip Tam. (Any relation to Simon and River, I wonder?) "Sacred Vows" #1 of 2.
There's a wonderful moment of dialogue at a mixed stag for Alex and Lorna, who are (ostensibly) getting married. Northstar (Jean-Paul Beaubier) is sitting at a table with the girls:
Jean Grey: ...Personally, I don't know what everyone sees in Gambit. He's cute, but....
Lorna Dane: Oh, please, Jean! He's a dish. Isn't he, Northstar?
Northstar: A spicy Cajun dish with some seriously hot buns.
Well, I certainly agree, but the fun thing about this is that when I last was reading about Northstar - back when he had his own miniseries, and before that, when he came out as gay - he was the most chaste gay guy in fiction. And now, hey, he has good taste in Cajuns! And talks about it. Why do I think Gambit would like that? Because Gambit is a flirt, of course.
Judging by this, Chuck Austen is witty and inventive, and the art by Philip Tam appeals to me: it looks like "what if Rob Liefeld was European".
Okay, now I have to catch up on my reading of "Uncanny X-Men". How am I going to find the time?

I haven't read any recent issues, but a friend was telling me that Northstar, since he joined the team, seems to be crushing a bit on Bobby/Iceman, too.
My personal favorite gay comic book characters are back: Apollo and Midnighter. THE AUTHORITY restarted: Yay!

Thanks for the tip on Apollo and Midnighter. I suppose I dare not hope that Warren Ellis is writing The Authority again?

Not sure how I feel about it overall yet. There was a rather adorable scene of Midnighter and Apollo (and Baby Jenny) in a bed, though, which was kind of sweet. I'm just rather non-plused that Midnighter is, apparently, no longer a blond.

Date: 2003-06-05 04:50 pm (UTC)I would highly recommend the zine because I really like M. Fae Glasgow's writing and I loved her stories here. Each one is different, with a different take on Clark and Lex, and each one insightful and in character. Sexy, too.
I only read one other Smallville slash zine and didn't like it much. I don't remember what it was called.
