I was reading a notice of a newsletter and the editor asked members of the group to 'send picts if possible'. Since "Picts" to my historical mind means a bunch of tough Celtic warriors, I was picturing some woad-painted guy appearing on her doorstep, spear in hand.... Nice image.

Busy day. I'm still at work, having been battling a misbehaving photocopier for hours. Almost done. And then it's really Friday.

I have to say that I'm still puzzled as to why on earth the makers of KA decided to call them "Woads" instead. ::boggles::

You could always threaten your relcacitrant photocopier with Picts/Woads - see if that makes it behave...

Woads...

Woads. That was downright strange. And not very attractive... I kept thinking 'toads'.

Nothing will make that photocopier behave. Nothing!

My daughter taught herself the Woad song, from the Oak, Ash, and Thorn album. It's charming to hear this high soprano lisp (she's lost both front teeth) randoming singing that song!

Oh what you have done to me on a Friday evening! I have been sitting here happily listening to all the music on their website. I've heard them before, but I can't think where.

Couldn't find the Woad song, though.

I don't suppose you have a recording of your daughter singing it?

On a totally unrelated topic.... I saw an ad on TV this morning for Silverstar (http://www.skisilverstar.com/) and I thought of you.

The Pictich Guide by Elizabeth Sutherland. Went to get mail one morning, and there it was, in the mailbox. I squeed. Cat claims we ordered it together and that I knew about it.

That is so cool! I love surprises.... especially when they involve books.

(Rushing off to look that one up in the library catalogue.)

I've always figured Methos for a Celt. Or proto-Celt.

Really? Could be Mesopotamia for all I know. the looks can fit.

I usually hate surprises, but this one was GREAT. Which is why I remember it.

Methos of Mesopotamia? Well, I figure the boy has been everywhere. I suspect my impression of Celticness comes from my knowledge that Peter Wingfield is from Wales. But that's the way my imagination pictures the young Methos; being originally from somewhere damp and cold with wild oceans, like Ireland or Scotland, or even islands north of Scotland - Hebrides, Orkneys, Shetlands or the like.

The local libraries don't have that book. Grump.

Celts they are. The Romans classed them with Caledonians generally, and the little snippet of language I found in Joscelin of Furness was relly, really close to Welsh.

Excuse me, I have to run and find Joseclin of Furness. Do you have bibliogrphical notes to help me find him?

I see him more desert-y. But he has been everywhere.

LOL That's right! Send in those Picts!

Someone today lauding the (frankly hideous) fanfiction of her friends -- and her own -- on fanfiction.net told us all how her "grammer" was so much better, but of course "it don't matter" that much.

Yours is much more humorous.

Hmmm..maybe having a Pict around would be useful if you're battling a photocopier.

You mean, because of their arcane use of magic? Or their skill with a sword? I don't think recalcitrant electronics were their best thing.
