How can I resist a meme about Christmas? Got it from [livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair.

I love Christmas. Every year about Dec. 3 I fall in love with Christmas all over again. This year it was putting up the tree that did it for me.

1. Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree?

Fake. I've had it for years. It's about 5' tall and I decorated it with gold and clear ornaments this year, and little red apple-shaped ornaments for a touch of colour. On the top, there are white doves surrounded by holly and pine cones.

2. Do you put up Christmas lights on the exterior of your home?

No, I live in an apartment. I put lights on the tree and lights on the harp. All indoors.

3. What's your favorite Christmas song/carol?

"In the Bleak Midwinter" - the British tune, not the American.

4. What do you like better. turkey or ham?

I've never had ham at Christmas in the whole of my life. I like duck best. Turkey is fine. I had goose once and it was a disaster - I set fire to the kitchen because of that goose. But it was delicious, in the end. A little charred, and we had to eat it without vegetables because there was still grease on the oven after the fire....

5. Do you open up any Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?

No.

6. Have you ever been Christmas caroling?

No.

7. What was your most memorable Christmas gift(s) that you received?

When I was three years old I got a Punkinhead with yellow shorts - that's a cute little bear put out by Eaton's in the 1950s, with tousley white hair on the top of his head. Looked like this. Well, I lost the bear at the trolley stop when we went visiting, and I felt sad about it. The next year... I got a bigger Punkinhead, with red shorts. He was my friend and companion for years. And in my stocking, looking out over the top, was a cute little brown bear I called Brownie. I'll never forget the joy of that moment.

Christmas is so exciting when you are four.

8. What's your favorite Christmas movie?

The Lion in Winter. I haven't seen most of the Christmas movies that everyone else watches.

9. Have you ever built a real snowman?

Of course.

10. Have you ever peeked into a present and found out what it was before Christmas?

No.

11. What is on the top of your Christmas tree?

Two white doves with holly and pine cones.

12. Do you own a Santa hat?

Good heavens no.

13. When was the last time you had your picture taken with Santa Claus?

I have never had my picture taken with Santa Claus. I don't know him personally.

14. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Yes.

15. Do you put candy canes on your Christmas tree?

No.

16. Who is hardest person to buy for?

My father. I phoned him yesterday and admitted I was completely at a loss as to what to get him. "Don't get me anything," he said. "I don't want anything. Just send me a card."

The thing is, he's being perfectly honest: he doesn't want anything. I think the last present I gave him was a copy of Asterix y Gwylliadd in 1976. And I've probably mispelled it. I used to give him books on a regular basis but he says not to give him books any more. So what can I give him?

17. Who is the easiest person to buy for?

Uusally it's [livejournal.com profile] maaseru but this year she has me stumped too.

18. How old were you when you realized Santa was imaginary?

I don't remember ever considering the matter either way. There must have been a time I thought he was real, but I don't remember it.

19. What does your morning of Christmas routine consist of?

I don't have a Christmas morning routine, incredible though that may seem.

20. Egg nog?

Make it a double.

21. What do you want for Christmas this year?

This book.

The Lion in Winter....

What shall we hang? The holly, or each other?

Aaargh My dad's just the same, not even really interested in books anymore. I want to give him a present, dammit!

In desperation, I got him this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0141012234/qid=1134652469/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/202-6633858-0040659). No telling whether he'll be pleased with it, but there's no way I can just not get him anything, which was his solution to this year's dilemma. *sigh*

Frustrating, isn't it?

Looks like a fascinating book! I have it on request at the library for myself. Hmm... Papa might like it too...

Let me know. *g* And I'll keep you posted on its success or otherwise in the Cassar household.

I also got him some Mozart chocolates (http://sendchocolates.com/list3231category.html) - he used to be a music lover, and still has a very sweet tooth, so they should be appreciated. :)

Yum! Sounds to me as if you did well in the gift-for-father department.

You know what's worse? My father has a birthday two weeks after Christmas and I have the whole conundrum all over again.
