The Rolling Stones...
Aug. 31st, 2005 09:38 pmOn Sunday I heard the Rolling Stones concert.
Now, it wasn't that I had tickets. They were playing int he open air at Lansdowne Park, which is a few blocks from my apartment. I decided to wander in that direction and see if I could hear them.
I could. It was wonderful. I could see them, too, since there was a huge screen over the stage showing what was happening on the stage. Now, you had to position yourself just right to see - mostly my view was impeded by several large pine trees - but the music was beautiful. There were thousands of people with tickets inside, and it looked like everyone in the vicinity had decided to walk their dog or their kids or just wander along that stretch of road by the canal, closed off to traffic. Some brought their boats; I saw people listening while floating in kayaks, and the tour boats had people in lounge chairs on the roof. One person was watching the show through her digital camera lens, held way over her head. I wonder at what point her arms got tired.
I ran into my friends Doreen and Brian, and stood listening with them for a while. I couldn't understand why the whole street wasn't dancing. I was... as little... and I'm not the type to spontaneously dance.
What a lovely evening.
