Aug. 16th, 2005 11:16 pmWell. I just got to the end of the last episode of "Veronica Mars". I watched the last three episodes tonight because I couldn't bring myself to stop. I can use 'benign postural vertigo' as a good excuse to lie on the sofa watching television obsessively, right? It felt like the right medicine.
Random spoilerish thoughts:
(1) They put 90% of the story in the last 15% of the show.
(2) Who was at the door in that last moment? I'm hoping it's Logan, because I fell in love with Logan,
but that seems too easy, given the nature of the show. I live in hope. Besides, I don't want Logan jumping off any bridges. And I don't want it to be Duncan. Or Leo. It would be okay if it was Wallace.
(3) There will be another season, right? Please tell me there will be another season. SOON.
(4) By episode 13 or so I was sure I knew who had killed Lilly Kane. Though nothing much supported my
theory, nothing contradicted it. I believed it right up till, well, pretty much the end when Aaron Echolls
proved himself ready to kill Veronica. Then I had to concede: I was wrong.
I had thought the killer was Lynn Echolls. I thought she caught Aaron having sex with Lilly, then tried to
buy Lilly off or threaten her to make her drop Aaron, and when Lilly wouldn't, she killed her. Then
consequently killed herself not because her husband was a jerk and her life was a mess, but because she
was a murderess.
So I was wrong. Oh well. At least I got the bit about Aaron having an affair with Lilly right.
My alternate theory was that Lilly was killed by Celeste Kane, but I had no evidence. It was just that
I'd concluded that Celeste Kane was a cold bitch perfectly capable of murdering her daughter, and maybe
Lilly was blackmailing her or something. Yeah, wrong there too. Celeste turned out to be a cold bitch
trying to protect her son. I never for a moment thought Duncan did it, no more than it could be
Veronica, Wallace, or Keith. I was suspicious of everyone else at one time or another. (Not counting
the there-for-one-episode characters and a few that seemed totally unconnected to Lilly, like Mac.)
(5) I was surprised we got so much closure in the end. I expected more open-endedness, and didn't think the murder story would be resolved in first season if there was going to be a second. We had basic
resolution of the Lilly murder plot, the Keith/Lianne/Alicia plot, the who-raped-Veronica plot
(a quite benign resolution there) and - am I missing anything? As far as I can recall everything was
wrapped up neatly except Veronica's love life. And Wallace's - I still wonder where Georgia disappeared
to so fast. For a show with such careful continuity generally, that was an odd lapse.
(6) Funny: I didn't like Wallace until he changed his haircut. Now, am I that shallow? Probably. But I'd prefer to think that he grew up a little, got more confidence on the basketball team, became a little
more mature.
(7) I loved Enrico Colantoni and just discovered today that he's Canadian. Cool. Add him to my list of
'personal fave Canadian actors'.
(8) I loved it that Veronica made her mother leave. I was sorry that Keith was willing to take her back, at Alicia's expense. Oh well: all's well that ends well.
(9) I particularly loved Logan's inspirational messages on his phone. I think that's what made me
love him. (
(10) What a well-written show. It had its lapses and its weak spots, but the momentum just kept growing and the characters were deliciously convincing all the way.
