Have I mentioned lately how much I love Dorothy Parker?
Untitled

I wish I could drink like a lady
I can take one or two at the most
Three and I'm under the table
Four and I'm under the host

I love that poem. And it's so damned true...

Very clever, but I have to say W.C. Fields is my favorite quotable drunk.

"Once while traveling in the Andes we lost the corkscrew, and had to subsist on food and water for a week."

W.C. Fields...

LOL - that's wonderful! I hadn't heard it before.

Yup, that's one of the reasons I love it!

ROTFL. Wasn't she the one who said,
"By the time you swear you're his,
shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is,
infinite, undying,
Lady, make a note of this,
One of you is lying"?

Yup, that's her. She just gets better and better.

This needs to be made into fic. Lots of fic.

Me? Heh. I'm not really much of a writer - I hope I can make something out of it, but you'd better get someone else to try :)

You're a brilliant writer - what are you talking about? We can make it a challenge. I'll write something on a Parker theme if you will. Just a ficlet. What fandoms should we use?

While I appreciate your sentiment, and I do, I can't say I share the same opinion regarding my own writing, *smile*, not right now.

Challenges are nice. I barely touched anything except my One Massive HL AU Project in ages. I almost forgot what else I know how to write - except Ethan Rayne, gods bless him, he's unforgettable.

Well, you have written brilliant things in the past. I am having trouble coming up with anything these days.....

But Ethan Rayne? Nice idea. I could write Ethan Rayne, especially as a crossover. But since I have no idea of Buffy lore I'm not sure I'd get his background right.

The distant past, yeah :) Maybe I can do something, if given an idea.... and direction... and someone to hold my hand ;)

Write anyone you feel like writing! Anyone who talks to you when you read those lines.

I'm listening.... we'll see if anything echoes back.

You can write Dorothy Parker meeting with.... what fandoms do you currently do?

The same old: Smallville, Highlander, X-Files... I'm not writing any new fandoms, though there are new shows that I love - Battlestar Galactica, The Inside. Hmm. I need to free-associate a little.

How about a meeting, semi romantic plus a snark match, between DP and Methos? Sounds like a winner. Especially with the, "Lady, make a note of this,
One of you is lying".

Heh. Their dialogue would be interchangeable, and deadly.

....And sadly, not one I can write.

Parkerfic - yes! I could go for that. Are you writing?

From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
Not me, no :)

Although I just meant to take the idea, the feel of it, and use it in some other fannish thing.

You're quite right: the Parker themes would fit anywhere.

Aren't they just! I'd love to read her complete works. I have it around somewhere... but have only ever browsed it, reading bits here and there, and it's always wonderful.

I saw this once in a big jokes book, uncredited. Never knew it was by, ya know, an actual person. You teach me things :) Cool.

How crass not to credit her. But she used to toss these things off in such profusion that probably it got quoted and people lost track of who said it. She said so much!
