Smallville: Lucy...

By a strange, consistent combination of bad luck and stupidity I consistently missed (and failed to tape) showings of the Smallville 4th episode "Lucy" through several repeat showings and at least one rerun last week.

And Peter Wingfield is in it. One of my favourite actors. Methos, the best of the best. If I missed it again I might have to consider suicide... or at least immuring myself in perpetuity in some dark monk's cell without cable or Net access. (Shudder.)

At last, at last I got to see it tonight.

Enjoyed it, too. I remember my friends' reaction to it when it aired as tepid. I thought it was one of the better 4th season episodes, because Lex was gorgeous, talented and kind; because I liked the composition of scenes more than on many episodes this season, and because Clark acted, I thought, with a certain integrity - and kindness, too. Saying this makes me realize how I think people on Smallville are often unkind to each other, often for no reason, and it's treated as ... okay. An obvious example is the Kents' suspicion of Lex, however much he does for them - and in this case, I include Clark as a Kent. This makes me uncomfortable.

But in this episode, we have Lex playing the piano beautifully - hmm, years of piano lessons Lex was rebelling against in first season, when it seemed Lionel was the classical listener and Lex was into only modern music?

Of course it was wildly predictable that Lucy was a crook, but why was Lois so puzzled by her behaviour at first? Just because she had never visited before? I liked the scene where Lois tried to make breakfast (shades of Ryan, when he visited the Kents) and considered doing chores in the stable, like Lex when he visited. Nice bit of continuity there, but not unsubtle.

Since Lex was impressed by Lucy's beauty, talent and charm, why didn't she opt to try to marry him instead of just conning him out of $50,000.00? Which is really a paltry sum to try to get from a billionnaire.

By the end, I really liked Lucy: the talented girl gone bad, with a talent for deception. Maybe this was just because Lois annoys me more every time I see her. I am fast losing my level of Lois tolerance. I particularly don't like the way she treats Clark - but then, I don't like the way she treats anyone.

Lex gets bopped on the head again. But this time, by Peter Wingfield. Too bad Marcus Whosit didn't have more lines, more of a role. What was the first scene with the skiing all about? It was made to look as if Marcus was chasing Lucy, a very James-Bond like moment.... were they just playing around?

I wonder what would happen if Lucy Lane met Lucas Luthor.

Yes yes! Yes yes, LOL. It is very, very beautiful, as are all rare things.

But I generally find people sleeping very attractive. Just because of the calm, so rare in consciousness.

I'm trying to think of other memorable books or scenes that have sleeping/unconscious characters.
