My printer at last...
Jun. 29th, 2005 08:31 pmI've been without a printer for months now. My Lexmark, which ran perfectly, ran out of ink, and the ink is so expensive I couldn't afford to buy more. I began to lust after a laser printer, like
So in the Great Glebe Garage Sale I bought a laser printer for $25 - it seemed worth the gamble, when I haven't seen them sold even second-hand for less than $200. And it didn't work, despite the best efforts of my computer guru friends. Bummer.
My last avenue of hope was to enlist Lionel's help - he's my friend with a talent for hardware problems. He looked at my printer, poked at it like a doctor (pushing all the right buttons), said it seemed just fine - except that I had the wrong kind of cord. It fit - but in the world of computers and printers, fitting is irrelevant if it's the wrong cord. And it just so happens that he had the right kind of cord.
So we had to make a trip to his apartment and back, and we did, and now the printer works just fine. The toner cartridge is in bad shape, but I knew I'd have to get another one of those anyway.
It prints. It actually prints. I can print stories again. Wonderful.

Date: 2005-06-30 01:53 am (UTC)I bought my HP Laserjet printer at work for $25, as they were upgrading everybody with newer ones (there wasn't anything wrong with it, they just... up and gave everyone a new one.) Now I buy printer cartridges on eBay, for a lot cheaper than Office Depot. I just make sure it's from a reputable seller with no bad feedback and I've never had a problem yet.

Date: 2005-06-30 02:16 am (UTC)I figure that with the money I saved on a laser printer, I can now save up for a new DVD player.
Congrats on the usable printer!
